I am wonder if anyone has heard of several differant strains of rollers I came across ?? Is plona, reo , black rain, and ouellette true kinds of rollers ?? Also henderson ? I read an artical in which a man was talking about these diff. breeding of rollers !! He talked about jaconette's too .. Which I have several of . I would like to hear from some of you about this ???

Thank You

Thanks I was sure thats what he ment !! The birds this man had were all blacksself's,grizzels, blk.splash, and black w/wh.flights. He gave me 55 birds when he divorced and had to move.. They all seam to be real good stock.. Thanks again.

hello
many of the "strains" you have mentioned are named such because those are the guys who have breed and developed a group of rollers to their specifications except the balck rain which is a line of jaconette ( spelling?? ) from my understanding it is a line mr jaconette breed from a hen which he called black rain. ( ok guys help me with the history here ) unless you step out of the birm type birds into the n.a.h.f., fireballs, appleberrys ect.... you find that the types of birds are just the product of a specific breeder who through long years, hard work and very selective breeding have moulded their line of birminghams to fit there iseal bird. the names you hear are the guys who did well in comps or made birds that others can do well with. there are thousands of guys who have developed familys that you never hear their names. after you have a family for a time and you have made the selections in breeding for several generations you have in effect developed your line based on your origional. I mention this as a caution because many will sell a palona, jaconette, oulette ( of which there are several guys named such) but you must keep in mind that in several generations a person can degrade or improve a line. Each family has traits that are attributed to them but even these are not as steady as you would hope I had jacs who were a very stable family but to slow in the development and stiff for me but another guy was flying jacs who came in quick and had good frequency. The lesson here is dont buy a bird based on the family but either out of the air or from a breeder who you know is flying birds you want in your loft. All the guys will tell you the good points but the good ones will also let you know the development type, and any rough spots you can expect with their family. there is no family which has no hicuppsor perticularitys you just have to find one that will suit you. ok Im finally out of wind c.j.

Black Rain is not a strain. It is a cock bird that has produced many performers. The rest that you mentioned are strains that are recognized by many. There are some other (and a lot of them) strains available. There are several breeders in here that have thier own as well. The owner of this site is one of them (Ruby Rollers).

My family is based primarily on Tom Hather's Continental strain, but it is so convoluted with other strains that I have mixed in they are now my family.....and I guess you can say they are a strain (Snicker Rollers). I am just too embarrassed to say it out loud(LOL). How good they are will only be proved this year in competition. They will not really be recognized as a strain until others call them a strain and not just me.......know what I mean?

thanks nick I knew somebody knew that history better than I. I have seen the pic of a black hen with heavy splash in several places called black rain who is she?? I have meet many people who say they fly the black rain jacs so I assumed the general perception was they were breed as a family aka strain c.j.
