Not being banded worrys me a little. I hope you know the guy you got them from. When birds are stolen often the bands are cut off so you cannot trace them back to someone.
I hope I am not putting a damper on the joy; just me thinking outloud and I apologise if I have. I just don't like the un-banded thing.
The birds do look awesome and I hope they are 40 footers each and everyone of them. Looking good.

Nick.Same here.I am always shy of birds not banded. And especially any from England. Those fellows are pretty good at banding their birds. At least the ones that Import to the USA are.And these are England birds.I don't see a band on any of them.Myself I would steer clear of them even if I knew the fellow.LOL.Unless he actually imported them that way? I also noticed that rear bird on the last pic was banded. I also blew up the pic but couldnt tell what band. Vince, did you import these birds, or the "other" gentleman? Just curious that you said they were "unbanded" but you didnt notice that atleast one of them does have a band. Jerry

As someone who's been ripped off before, I'm with you guys on this one. I see a 'red flag' warning with these birds.
Vince, if you don't mind a few questions, where do you live, and who gave you the birds? If they're all 40-50'ers the guy must be a reputable breeder. Right?

Dont get wierd guy's, I knew a man who would cut the bands off his own birds when he gave them for free, he didnt want the birds ending up at somebody elses hand and then that person asking for pedegrees, just a thought. Hector C

Hector, Were not disputing the fact that "some" do pull bands off their birds. The fact is that this guy showed photos of birds that HE stated were unbanded, but as the photo shows, there is atleast one that does have a band! Jerry

There could be a hundred reason why one or two birds have bands. I for one would never take a bird from some one else with no band, for two reasons. one they could be stolen. Two for keeping records.

I have a couple birds that are unbanded...like a lot of fanciers have said...there are elevendy billion reasons why a bird is not banded. I have a breeder hen and some breeder cocks that are not banded...one I cut off myself...leg swelled up...the others were not banded as young..because the breeder ran out of bands at the time and they were late hatches and the new bands did not arrive in time. I have a hen from Chuck Roe that is missing its band but does have an address band ...Chuck Just said the band came off in the nest and he never caught it....so it just happens.
I myself am the opposite on the band thing...If I give away a bird or sell a bird...it is a bird that I have faith in and it WILL have my address band to prove the bird is from my loft...SO if a bird has my band on it and it is not in my loft...then it either comes from good stock...or is a good bird itself....If I sell culls for dinner or hunters...etc...I cut my bands off......I DO NOT want garbage floating around with my name on it...and the people I give young birds to....I tell them...if the bird is not good and you cull it...cut the address band off or cut the leg off and take the band off and send it to me..
That is it...

Hey, Vince, I'm from England and that first bird pic - well, I have a Mason hen which is absolutely identical to it. She was paired with another bird for a time, but they failed to produce any eggs over a couple of months, so I split the pair. Mr. Mason subsequently informed me that they were brother and sister - nestmates, actually. So, lesson learned - Masons don't do incest!
Over here, when birds change hands, some flyers cut off the bands - we call them rings - so they're not responsible if the bird is flown out by the new owner, then gets lost and found. The registered owner could be traced and would (at a cost) have to make arrangements to get the bird back. Yes, birds can be transferred to the new owner, but few bother to do it, preferring to cut off the bands to make life easier.

Hello Vince,i am pretty sure these birds of yours are badges ,very popular around the birmingham uk area, they are a good competition bird,i have about thirty pairs here and i am very pleased with them, they will kit very tightly and break together consistent of good breeding by english breeders over many years, you also will breed birds which are pleasing to the eye, slightly smaller than the br,i like the pics very much its allways nice to see fellow fanciers birds, stick with-em you wont regret it,jim uk.

Hey Vince,
Hang in there, my friend. We didn't know the whole story and the no-band thing makes anyone who has had thier birds riped off very nervous.
I apologise for stepping into things without knowing the whole story. Don't let us screw up your attitude. Those birds look fantastic.

Hello again vince,if the hens seem small leave off the breeding,we only breed from ours at a year old, some hens mature to a good shape in second year, make sure you give them plenty of red grit they are probably used to it,red minerals too, nice birds you should do well from these, jim.
