I have a great little black grizzle hen named stumpy since she lost most of one leg in a hawk attack some time back. Great spinner, may be the best in the loft, frequent, 15 to 20 feet and does so by herself or when flown with the kit. I stocked her and paired her up with a great little red grizzle no larger than her and nearly as good in the air not knowing if she could breed or not with only one leg. She layed her first egg yesterday and am I excited. Now if they are only fertile.

heyyou
Hope they are full for you, I think you might be ok with a hen with a shorter leg although if it was the other way cock then that would be more difficult lol
best of luck

Val, I am still flying the same young birds that I had when I sent you birds and they are really coming into their own, tight and 20 to 30 ft. you should be flying some of your own by now, hope they are doing well, Bill

She only lost a leg not her overies. She will be fine. Only the cocks that might have a problem when losing a leg because they can not balance themselves mounting the hen.

Hi Bill, I've got a round from every pair now, at least one, a couple froze! I just put them in the yb kit this week.My red bars are about done with their second round and will be starting their third any day. My Gary Stephens birds are setting on their second clutch. I'm thinking about keeping their first round to breed back to the parents. As old as the parents are though I'm afraid it might shut them down. We'll see in time! I'm anxious(sp) to fly the rest. Trap training four now! Ole Coop has been coming around once or twice a week though. He got my best yb the other day(not yours) but I chased him off of it before he killed it but the yb halled butt and didn't come back. I sure am looking forward to having a heart to heart with ole coop!

The funny thing about mine is,i got it from a friend a few years ago, after the loss of the leg a stocked him because he was a real good roller, when i asked my friend for a pedegree he said yea it comes out of my one legged hen,she lost her leg to a hawk, like mother like son, wierd ,,,,
