Excuse me,,too lazy to read throught the threads. What is the max# of days I can get away with between when the foster pair laid 1st egg and pumper 1st egg? Also,I have a hen(pumper)which was reluctant to mate at first and now has laid one egg Jan 4th and no 2nd egg. Can't feel any egg stuck there but not really sure what it feels like on the bird when a hen is eggbound.Maybe there is only one egg there 1st round???? Thanks any input.---------- Kelly

Kelly if the pumper laid 1st you can get away with a lot more (as much as 7 days, maybe more ((no exterme conditions))if you took the eggs away as soon as they were laid(not incubated)If the fosters laid 1st 2-3 days tops.My experience only!!

Kelly.I agree with Luis. After 3 days difference the fosters will most likely leave the nest. Something I have done is allow both pair to hatch then switch young to the fosters. There is a 5 to 7 day period where this will work.It allows the good pair to lay back again sooner than if allowed to raise the round. Or keep a couple pair of cock birds mated together and give them the eggs a few days before they hatch. They will raise them fine. David

Dave, come back for another ??!!Are you saying a pair of cocks can raise young with only 3 days sitting on the eggs. Can they develop the milk or can the young survive without the milk and just be fed regurgitated grain? ---------- Kelly
