It is my understanding that a birds ability to roll properly(A-type)is greatly ehanced or impaired by said birds physical make up(body length, keel size, chest muscle, armbones and lenght and width of feathers). This being said, once we have stablished our breeding program.Shouldn't we strive to produce birds with inherent traits wich will make them more aerodynamic and thus more prone to execute a proper roll(A-Type)????

Let a semi-newbie start off by saying that you can't define a 'proper' roller as 'A' type. There are different preferences and good style is very much in the eye of the beholder. I think most would agree that the execution of the roll and the bird's ability to come out of it properly and rejoin the kit, are more important traits than whether a bird is 'A', (), X or whatever style.

Of course, some will like a particular style and specifically breed towards it - assuming all other important roller things are sorted - but, I can't see 'A' type being the be-all and end-all.

I have always believed that form will follow function. If a certain body type is required to produce an (A-type) roller, and you only put (A-type) rollers in the breeder loft you will get body type that will roll with the style that you want.

That being said it also must kit, have the desired frequency, not roll down etc etc etc. I am still a long way away from being that picky in my breeder loft. (hope to be there some day)

Shaun with my statement i was only trying to promote discussion on roll and how a birds physical attributes enhance it.Kitting, length of flight, manageability, ect are traits that have to be worked out separately(Only my opinion).Few birds are a complete package and we work to enhance traits wich are less than the ideal.
