Looks like someone had a good day, real good day! Watching the dogs learn and develope is as rewarding as the game you brought home. Takes a lot of time to get a dog to learn whistle commands. Training a fifth generation pup right now!
Curious to here Tapps answer on the eating part, but out of that group, I liked the teal the best.Duck is dark meat, and a little wild tasting, but if you fillet those breast out and wrap bacon around them and toss em on the grill, mmmmm mmmmm, pretty good!
Grew up poor, ate a lot of duck growing up!

Nice Hunt! We have not had good weather and the ducks just don't want to land. We went out today for about 2 hours and only got 2...a pintail and a wigeon. We got back doored by 4 low fliers...we were looking at two others and they just flew over from right behind us...We should had taken some shots on a couple other groups....they were boarderline to high..but they were looking...
My dog is still young and this year was her actual first time in the field. She has been trained with trainer ducks. She is still trying to catch on..for a two year old dog...she sits still outside the blind...and gets the ducks..but wants to play with them...not everytime but a couple of times...I had to hit the collar tones a couple of times...but she is till learning. She does go in the direction that I point. All my buddies think she is coming along fine for her age.
Anyway..it has been kind of crappy here. Looks like You are having a good year...Those are some nice looking dogs.

Sounds delicioso!!Growing, hunting and preserving your own grub is a good thing.Your pics brought back memories.Only been duck hunting once back in the 70's with Native guys from Kyuquot on the NW coast of Vancouver Island. The trip was to Power Lake on Oukinish Inlet to look at a herd of Elk up there.I couldn't hit the barn door when a flock of Canadas flew out the river mouth, but Chief Dick Leo poppped 3 with 2 shots. The winter Spring Salmon in the inlet were hot!Longtimeago. ---------- Kelly

Hey Steve-Uk-As someone once said you have too kill it to grill it !!I am so tired of people that think there meat comes down wraped in plastic in a tray.I think most people live in a unreality--they eat meat but are appalled at someone taking the life of animals. This is escapism at its worst. If you are a vegetarian an you only wear synthetic belts -shoes-maybe made of hemp etc.-then you have some crediblity. I say SOME--because the people that make these products most likely ate meat to have the energy to make these products. You cant escape this reality.I myself have taken the lives of ---OH--- maybe a few thousad animals--that is with my own hands.I have never taken pleasure in the actual death itself but I must admit I have taken pleasure in the hunt itself. In one year I have trapped 278 red fox 76 grey fox 96 racoons mink muskrat beaver etc.For those that think this is discusting--I would ask you to come with me and see how nature deals with overcrowding. I have caught poor fox that only have fur on their paws and snout-- the rest was scabs and puss.--this is how nature deals with overcrouding and poor animal control.I have buryed these poor creatures with tears in my eyes.I have had many occasions that I have come upon fox in a trap that were asleep-- unhurt-- and caught by one toe.I dispatached them quickly and with aslittle pain as poss.If you eat beef, pork ,chicken etc. then you must know what a "knocker" is --in the old days -he was the guy that would swing the LARGE hammer.--today I believe that it is a pneumatic driven stainless steel spike that quickly dispataches the animal---THIS IS REALITY--.In this country and others we are so insulated from death,--Animals, people, etc. that we are shocked that that hamburger-or-fish and chips was aquired directly through death. We take our loved ones to the mortuary and hide everything we can with makeup-hairdoo--to disguise death--even though it is a natural part of life. When you are schocked buy the killing of ducks --I would ask you point blank-- have you ever eaten duck??? or chicken?? beef??--do you own a leather belt?? shoes?? Are you totally free from any form of death?? or are you just living in your own amoral fantisy??

guys I assume from his posts that steve is from queeenly side of the pond and the way it was explianed to me those guys gave up the right to keep the guns they own. There is not much game over there and they have let the so called enviromentalists dictate what happens with wild animals. Take a long look at what happened in england and then reload accordingly. Steves attitude may just be a symptom of lack of opportunity. Many a time have I taken a hesitant hunter out ( my own son was one) and after 5 or 6 time of busting a cock pheasent under the point of a dog or seeing a covey of sharps blow up at your feet in cover so thick you cant see your feet they begin to change their minds. When they finally get settled down and can keep their heart rates low enough to function and bag a bird their minds are made up. the clincher is when they eat the bird they knocked out of the iar themselves. such a sence of accomplishment and pride to know they feed themselves and next time they want to bring home enough to fed the whole family. In the uk they dont seem to have this opportunity. to bad. c.j.

CJ, they didn't give up the right to bear arms in the UK, unfortunately they ended up allowing the government to make it very difficult for a person to do so there. There are several permits, the police has to give the nod, inspections of the property, etc. I chat with several fellow gun owners in the gun forums I am on who are from the UK and they are avid hunters. It's just not as popular as it once was there and the difficulty only compounded the problem. Now the Aussies, those guys got screwed! PS--the largest armed force in the world is the Chinese Army. The second largest armed force in the world is.....the citizens of the United States of America.

Hey Steve UK are you one of the people in Britain that stopped the Fox hunt with hounds ? We have a number here in Ontario Canada that would like to do the same, what poor misinformed individuals. We have far more game & wildlife here now than in the early 1900s & you know what Hunters & Anglers are largely responsible through their clubs, donations & volunteer time spent improving habitant, streambeds for fish.birdhouses & just overall conservation of our great outdoors.I also know this happens in the U.S.A. Geat pictures guys & good dogs. Proud to be a Hunter an Angler & the owner of foxhounds, coonhounds, bird dogs & beagles. I might add that my B.H. Rollers take most of my free time. Keep posting those hunting pics guys i love them. Bob in ont.

Wayne UK I don,t know what happens in the UK but our foxes go down a hole when they are tired & quite often you will see a second fox come into the chase. They make a game of it. We also feed them by placeing food in hidden areas in the winter time. The only ones that get caught are sick. You call this cruel. Bob in Ont.

Wayne, I agree with you on the fox hunts. What a ridiculous sport,if you can call it that. What a bunch of geeks riding horses after a little fox while they're all dressed in their caps, blazers and tights!Yuck!!I can see hunting for food, but the extermination of many species formerly of the planet, through over hunting is what I don't like to see.I don't agree with trophy hunting either.I'd rather see or at least have the knowledge those animals are running free and wild.I like to see this hunting with cameras the best!!Some of the documetaries on the idiot box show excellent footage of things we would never see otherwise. As far as giving Steve UK a break,,,well,,,this thread wiil soon be on the side. Hey Steve, come on back!!Never mind the red-necks.They're everywhere and there's nothing to be done about it. ---------- Kelly

STEVE
Its alright to be a tree hugger. As long as your not hugging the tree with my dinner in it, But 1st of all you live in a country were there is not much game to hunt were in the states were deer do more damage to our cars too the tune of a bil dollars a year, and take about 50 lifes a year. and your not save in the city were they have ran tru plate glass window and ended up running tru hospitals and stores. so steve you realy dont know what your talking about. and another thing the jerks in your country the uk were the ones who came up with the great idea to chaseing fox on horse back in there pj. There are is more game in this country now then when the pilgrims landed so we must be doing some thing right. I harvest around 6 deer a year great eating my childen love it my grandchildren love it. thats y in this country we say love it or leave it ps On nov 21 i had a deer run into my car $2,600 damage would you like help me pay for it,s only the 3rd time in the last 7 years,

Hey guys if we are rednecks so be it, but i want you to know we are mighty proud of it. Let me assure you that our type do more to preserve our outdoors & wildlife than a nation full of tree huggers & animal rights protesters. By the way when did those English fox hounds run fast enough to catch a fox? We have them here 7 they need booster cables to start one let alone catch it. we run American Fox hounds & they are fast & still catch very few.I might add that some States in the U. S. have the Fox as their national animal & not allowed to be gun hunted or trapped yet can be run with hounds. So guys have fun birdwatching Bob in Ont.

So if you hunt, you are a redneck???? What a moronic comment. Like my forefathers, I'll DIE for the right to bear arms and hunt. If you don't like it, tough shit, bring a new game because me and many others will be right here to defend what our constitution provides for us. Even though I don't hunt much anymore, I will always, completely and one hundred percent support the right to do so. There are a lot of things I think are idiotic, dumb, and plain ignorant in this world, but I've learned to "just get over them". I won't force feed the world my opinion of it, nor do I expect any rant of mine to change anyone's perception. Here's one for all you tree huggers and bambi humpers. http://www.dogbegone.com/video/maxcarn1.wmv

What I'm saying is we all have to tolerate each other.Hunters and gun enthusiasts have names for people on the other side of the fence(Note bambi humpers, tree huggers). The trouble with forums like this when we start bringing up any other controversial subjects is the discussion can invariably get nasty as everyone has their own opinions.Call me a moron or whatever the hell you like.I couldn't give a rats friggin pyjamas what you think of my opinions just like I'm sure the same goes for you. Don't shoot,I'm only a piano player.---------- Kelly

On forums such as this, the only real common interest we have is rollers. Beyond that, we are likely to disagree on a great number of things. What's ugly is the immediate insults which are predictably spouted because someone has an opposing view. Where I come from, there are people who would endanger the lives of others, simply because they support a different football team. Now, they are morons.
Surely, we can see where the problem starts. If someone posts pictures - outside of the roller environment - these will be viewed by both supporters and those who are dead against whatever the pics are about. It's similar to someone posting pics which obviously portray their political views.
Many will find that the kindred spirit they feel they've forged by discussing their mutual love of rollers, can be quickly snuffed out by vociferously bringing their personal opinions to the table about other unrelated matters.

Tree huggers and Bambi humpers....? I would prefer conservationalists and animal lovers. I am good with hugger, but not humper. I am one of those weird people that see a need for both hunting and preservation. In many instanses they go together hand in hand. Hunters will protect those things they like to hunt
There where no deer in Illinois until the hunters re-introduced them. Ducks Unlimited is a good example of this hand in hand thing.
There has to be controls; regulations; and enforcement or you will have a Carrier Pigeon disaster type thing again. So there is also a need for the "tree huggers and Bambi humpers" as well to guard against such happenings.
Nothing like being "wishie-washie" is there? I prefer a "live and let live" approach on this issue unless you are just killing for trophies If I where forced to take a side I would hug the trees and LOVE the animals.
