Kill it.

Those are a dime a dozen. You will get better birds out of that kit. Give them time.

If you want to save it and fix the leg, we have leg splints that might help it heal.

Otherwise, culling a bird that rolls with no control is probably a good idea.

sal,

You can fix the leg, but I am not sure you will be able to fix the bumping. I myself, do not keep birds that bump or rolldown because my experience tells me they usually bump till they die. They are just not smart enough to adjust.

How old is the bird? A youngster just may have made a mistake and may come out of it. If the bird is more than a year old you may have a problem.

Before you cull the bird just check for reasons this bird is bumping, Moult, Weight, condition,? If i had the bird i would fix the leg rest for four weeks and give the bird a second chance you have nothing to lose. But if the bird does not rectify itself then its deffo an unstable bird adding cull no other alternative.

Isn't this a prime example of where you are in the scheme of things? If you have any number of decent rollers, you won't give such a bumper much of a chance to sort itself out. But, if you're trying to advance beyond mediocrity and you have this one bird which is something of a star (other than its unfortunate tendency to bump), you're not going to be so keen to eliminate it.

I've experienced bumpers which in time have totally sorted themselves out and I'm glad I didnt act too impatiently. Actually, to be truthful, at the time I was a bit of a wuss about culling, so I gave everything a second/third/fourth chance.

It's been said before: These questionable birds can be fun to watch and they either kill themselves or they pull through.

Sal the splints Tony has would help i had a hen roll into a pinetree a broke her leg it was getting dark and she misjudged the tree she was out of the team for approx 4 to 5 weeks she is back now. I know that was an accident but i would rest the bird then fly it again let the bird straighten itself out or cull itself out. After putting the bird back in the air i would pull the bird out and feed it up that will tell you if the bird was rolling down due to stress or the bird is just plain and simple a rolldown. Diamond,
I had one dislocte his leg at the shoulder,it felt nasty in the joint. He was holding it against his body and squatting down on it in approximately the right position. I just put him in an extra indie pen in the breeder loft. shut him in for a week on a nestbowl full of pine needles. Put his food and water where he could reach it without moving. He pretty much sat there for 4-5 days.
Next day I was looking in on him and he was up and moving around a little bit. He just got stronger. Still limps a little but much improved after 10 days. This bird was one of the last I bred in 06. He is just coming into the roll. Been pretty good, just getting a little too deep, too soon. I`ll let him decide the outcome.

If they don`t kit,they don`t score.
Color don`t roll and peds don`t fly.
It`s a comp thing,understand?
