I noticed a couple of days ago that one of my cock bird's wing was hanging and couldn't fly. I thought maybe it was broken or something, but today I saw another cock bird with the same problem. What can this be and how do I treat it. These birds were also sitting on eggs in individual closed cages and have not been out for a while, could that be the reason?

Thanks all for any info

There are 3 now with this problem and they cant fly even a feet high. What's odd is that all hens seems to be fine!

Hey Pigeonman:
Sounds like you got Paratyphoid. You got many mice in your loft? That will give it to them. You should separate them or their mates will get it.

Stan is most likely correct, it is parathyphoid which can effect a variety of areas of the pigeon, in this case, the joints which is a pretty common area and one that is easy for many to diagnose. I would recommend Baytril or Cephalexin to treat it, but one thing to consider is that many times birds which have infected joints from parathyphoid never fully regain the ability to fly again.
Brian.
