This is an interesting statement I found by a breeder of Turkish birds: "Unfortunatly, in recent years the color patterns and body shape have been taking more importance over the flight abilities. Some breeders even raise them strictly in coops and never fly thier stock. I am concerned deeply that the flight abilities of the breed is going to be deteriorating" Dr. Turker Savas
Are we seeing this happening to the Birmingham Roller? Many people are no longer calling them Birmingham Rollers. They call them just Rollers or even American Rollers. They know that they have been corrupted to a point where they are no longer Birminghams......they are simply Rollers. No matter what people tell you there is a breed called Birmingham Rollers.....Birmingham is not a description of a performance; it is a breed.

Nick.Rather than try to keep proving your point that the Birmingham Roller is a Breed why don't you get a Club going and Preserve what is left of the Breed. There is not many left according to some so you all better be doing something before you wake up one morning and find that fellows like me have destroyed the Breed by Color Breeding. Now is the time to take action rather than just talking about how bad everyone is destroying the Breed. The time you spend trying to find out what is happening all over the World in destroying the Breed would be well spent getting a Club going. No LOL. I am serious. David

hey nick This illustrates the need for people like you and scott and many others. As people play with a breed like the birminghams and dilute the bird that still have a yorkshire accent You guys can stand with your head held high stateing your birds still follow the queen and are just as inbreed as the day they camke off the boat LOL just kidding guys. It takes all kinds to keep a breed alive and it takes other kinds to play with it and make new and diffrent stuff. I belive that inorder to survive a breed needs fellows like you to keep the lines pure and preserve the main line. I think that is an honerable and necassary role to be filled. but ( there is allways a but) america was built on the bases of freedom to diffrent things and the thought of "" what if "" And if a breeder wants diffrent colors regardless of what he breeds to get them he is free to do it. I agree when it is crossed out it is no longer a Birmingham Roller. When this cross breed gets refined to the point it rolls agian it is a roller. Not a birm but a roller none the less. This decribes what it does I have many nationalities in my background but I live in america there for I am an american. My turners roll there for the are rollers. Birminghams?? I dont think so as the lines were played with many years ago but from a guy who has flown palona, pensom, jacs, roe, and several others over the course of 20 years they damn sure are rollers. I agree that it is a disservice to call birds such as the toy stencil and others Birminghams but it seems impractical to call them backwards flippers LOL. People who strive to keep the blood lines pure are to be cherished but those who play with the lines are not to be condimed. Look at the modena that bird has undergone major changes since italy. I was like you very sore at the crossing and progression of the show king like development of the modern modena but I held on to my old small even tempered wine glass birds and enjoy them. As each breed moves "" forward"' there will be others who hold on to the past and generally the people come back to that which was after trying the new fangled styles. to each his or her own and enjoy what you choose to fly. c.j.

Nick , I honestly doubt that the breed is in jeapordy , of course coming on here it may seem like it at time's , but you have to remember most of these guys are just backyard pigeon keepers that like to tinker with whatever , in the real world the guys that I have contact with aren't tinkers , such people are in the shadows and rarely come out of their backyard. There are many many solid lofts of main stream flyers and breaders accross the country , I think that you have always had the tinkers and you allways will, and the same holds true for the guys that are serious about the birds. It it easy to talk , but there is only one way to walk the talk and that is to put them up, the up coming W/C fly is a good example of this , while some of us will be pitting our birds against the best in the world , the talkers will still be just talking . I love the Spring, as the world cup games will be starting soon .

Nick, it is posts like yours at the top that made me change the name that I refer to my rollers as American Competition Rollers. My Black Elvis family is of mixed blood and I am DAMN PROUD OF IT....and they are just as good as my other two pure families. Do you really think that some people will really care what you or others choose to think about your fondness for the past? Do I think you will care about what I have just said?
This is getting to be so F@#&ing retarded I'm about to really tell you how I feel.

Brian,
I care. I care what you think. I care about what you have to say. I care what others think. I care what others have to say. I care about how others view me. I care about what others think about me. I care about the well being of every individual I come in contact with everyday.
You can be as proud of your mongrals as you want to be. American Competition Rollers sounds real snappy to me and you might be the creator of something big and written about by scholars in the years to come You have never tried to cover it up by denying it like others have done. You have always been above that. So, what would you expect me to say? I can say nothing.
I care deply about the Birmingham Roller and I care deeply about this hobby of ours and I know you do too.
I, myself would never call a thread by anyone a retarded effort. What you feel is retarded I may find important or someone else may find it important as well. As one of my elementry teachers told my mother: "Nick is not retarded; he is just slow". So it may be that this thread is below some people but, not fully retarded. Your call though.
So you can go ahead and tell me how you REALLY feel or think because I do care(honestly). I have braced myself; I am ready. Hit me.
