Hi guys.

I was so motivated with all of the great positive threads going on lately, and the wealth of information that was being shared on the site, that I decided to fly my birds after many months of lockdown. I am very excited to say that a total 12 birds from my A team came back! Isn't that great?!! On an even more positive note, only 6 of those gone could really roll very well, the other two were just above average. I only had two Peregrines and one Cooper hawk attack. I feel so lucky! I can't tell you how happy I am to be raising these rollers. I look forward to losing more tomorrow, and the day after! Just for fun, I pulled out the calculator and came up with some great figures... So much to look forward to! Assuming I live another 35 years, and given the percentages lost over the past five years I have a general figure. Upon the hour of my passing, I have estimated that I will have lost (with a slight annual rate of acceleration) approximately 1,437 pretty darn good rollers. Boy I tell you, all the warm comraderie of the sport and the great moments...I just love it. Hope you are all having as much fun as me.

Well then move your booze shillin' ass out of tree hugger central then...lol.
Bummer on the birds though, that blows. If it is any concellation, I had four coopers, one redtail and a falcon playing aerial dodge ball with my kit on Sunday, only the falcon got one though after it was all said and done and only one didn't come back, but did a few days later. Turn that frown upside down...lol

I hate to tell everyone that I only have one cooper living down the road and only comes around about 1-2 times a month and he is not very good at pigeon hunting. I never had to lockdown this year. Have fun lol

Hey Jimbo.

I get, well, 5 free months of flying. Tops. It gets less and less every year though.

Milo,
Time to breed some white rumps onto those dark checks...LOL

Seriously though, there's a report somewhere on the internet about a study on pigeons with white rumps being better able to evade perregrine falcons. Something about the pigeon's white rump area confuses the falcon and enables the pigeon to escape a high percentage of attacks. The ones without the white rumps were falcon lunch almost every time.

I found it:

Milo,
Depends where you choose to live, Milo. I flew four kits today, as I have every weekend....no hawks. I realize I am blessed, but I can fly and breed all year 'round if I choose to. It was not like this where I lived before. Location is everything.

Milo , Cliff nailed it , some areas are good for flying while others are imposible.
I have been flying hawk free since November once the migration was over , which is weak here anyway , I fly birds every day weather and time permiting.
My local Redtaile are screwing with them a bit , that will change once the Voles come out once it warms a bit , besides it keeps them on their toe's for once the preds start migrating back through.

Location is everything since I relocated I feel as if I got new lease on bird flying

I will keep my fingers crossed and hope it stays this way.

Milo one thing I can say no one will ever win a World CuP or Fall Fly that lives in the Los Angeles area, between Oct and April if you let one roller out it dead for sure!

Yeah Wayne.
There are some pretty good builders here.
One can get a new house from 120k for 1500sft all the way to 500k for some small acreage and a 2500 sft house. Most of the higher end have isolated master,w/p tub,3 car garage, granite counters in kitchen. It`s a buyers market right now.Lotsa houses sitting just waiting for a familiy and some rollers in the back yard. Could probably get a loft thrown in for nothing if you buy a big one. I remember a builder built who a huge dollhouse for a buyers daughter in the backyard to close the deal.

Steve,
Most of the electricians I know are busy most of the time. There are a couple of union shops that do the big industrial jobs and there are a whole slew of residential/commercial ones. One of my electrician friends told me the other day, the reason he doesn`t have another crew is he can`t find qualified help. There ya go. I could probaly help you find something if you`re serious.

Hey Luis.

She flew 30 feet over my house. She does it every time. She taunts me. Can't tell you how bad I want to. If she falls in someones yard, I'm cooked. No joke. They are more special than people around here. And have more rights...LOL
