Through a recent series of malicious and vindictive emails, while they at first left me bewildered, hurt and confused as to their real purpose and intent (I don’t think they had their intended effect which I believe was to make me give-up and quit), I made some of this public by revealing a little of what was going on “behind the scenes”.

Whether this was a good or bad idea, I thought it necessary to work through this with you and get a little more perspective.
---------
After receiving some emails, posts and a call or two from people I would now especially consider to be friends, I had a few moments of clarity and went to my homepage and reread my mission statement and came to the conclusion that I was not living up to it.

After some thought, I began to see that some of my posts were designed to prove someone else wrong on a topic or prove my own point at the exspense of someone else. I myself created the tone on both sides of the controversial issue.

I was responsible, not any of the other players! I was responsible for chasing good people away and making it harder on those choosing to stay.

I don’t blame our passionate and knowledgeable supporters, I blame myself for allowing them to be put in that position through the posts I HAVE written and allowed that let the discussion degenerate to a level unbecoming of the average visitor.

While I agree and want to promote the viewpoint of the Birmingham Roller as a Breed, I realized that going around and around with the matter did not do much to effectively educate visitors on either side of the issue.
-------
I do believe there were/are a few sinister thinking persons who amused themselves by setting up these people(and me?), some have said it takes place on both sides, if that is true they will have to speak for themselves as I have NEVER sought out anyone to do my bidding.
--------
It is my hope that with the “Position Papers” policy (of which I have already been contacted for a copy of the template to follow) we can, as far as this site is concerned, put these issues in a section where they can be intelligently and reasonably considered.

If the best arguments are put forth in a well thought out and researched way, why not let each roller fancier decide for himself? At least both sides gave it their best shot after being given an equal opportunity to advance their viewpoint.

This is not giving in to anyone, this is about taking responsibility (me and you) and raising the level of discourse in what I hope is a manner that benefits everyone on all sides of any issue.
-------
If we can do this then Roller-Pigeon.Com can once again be the “…best online Roller Pigeon Community possible by providing a unique online experience for any roller pigeon fancier whether just starting out or a long time pigeon breeder of many years”.

FLY ON!

Tremendous insight, Tony. I applaud your effort and your willingness to look at your motives and the way in which you post. If we all went through the same exercise, our problems would be solved.I did a little soul-searching on my own after my exchange on the crested roller site and decided just to abstain from the bulk of the problem discussions. It's all about taking responsibility for ourselves. Some men couldn't care less who they hurt. They will be your most difficult problem to deal with...on both sides of the discussion....
YITS,
Cliff
