Probably because you lost them to a hawk and he doesn;t want to waste any more good ones.

thats a question you need to ask Johnny. Like Ken said, maybe pissed that his hard work has gone to the hawks..Jerry

Silent,

I think the best question is what did Johnny tell you to do with the birds when you got them from him? Did he say fly these birds or did he say take these home and breed from them? Many people will tell how to do things but opinions are like assholes every body has one. You have to use your common sense. If you had goten from a big name flyer in this sport would you flown them? I wouldn't and the reason is you may not be able to get any more of that blood.Johny Smith's birds come from Jerry Higgins And Norm Reed and most people do real well with them. I'm not saying that every bird is great but I myself would prove them in the stock loft rather then feed them to the hawks and falcons.Don't worry about what people say about having to fly them for two years because you see on some of these pedigrees from the big name fliers that some birds where never flown. You may not be able to fly a bird out for two years because the hawks wills get them.I feel it better to have them to prove out in the stock loft then to not have them at all.

I bet that poor guy gets a bunch of calls everyday from people, wanting to get in the hobby, people in the hobby, and people just wanting to get better birds cheap. I too would be letting the machine get all my calls so I could sort them out.

Silent,
Then in that case you have to ask yourself can I afford to lose them? Can I get more from this person? If the answers to these questions is no then you have to prove them out in the stock loft.I know many people would tell you to fly them out for two years. As you learned now days that's hard to do. It may take a little longer to prove out but at least you still have them to breed from.Rather then wondering what could of been after you seen how good they where. The hawks always seem to take the good ones.
