I took a few photos of the birds rolling just before the lock down in October. Here are few of them. I took over 300 shots to just get a few descent ones. The Dark checker with the marked tail is in 2 of the shots. The one is a blue checker hen and the other is a red mottle hen. I had no cocks left in my yearling kit of 12. Does anyone else have any descent shots they can share? Dave

I used a Kodak Easyshare DX7630 digital camera. Taking action shots is not something I am good at. Sorry about the quality. ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

the reason they are fuzzy is because that particular DC doesn't have a image stabilizer. The Kodak 850 has one, think it's 850. Dave

I hear from many breeders that the tail is not important for the roll or performance. BUT, look at those pictures close; look at the tail position; it is always flexed up and toward the head in an extreme way.
Do the birds that have lost thier tail roll with the same fluid motion; the same velocity; the same everything?

Scott Campbell of Ogden UT has some of the very best action photos of rollers I've seen. He even has some of a hawk attack in progress. I wish he would post a few of them here, they are impressive. Maybe if some of his freinds see this they could post for him.

Hey, you Oldfart!
I am not for sure how important the tail flex is, but I do believe balance is very significant in the roll performance and the tail flex may lend a hand at perfecting the balance.
If I could only fly and roll...........

I pluck one of my Pemson x Jac tail completely and still rolls like if he had it on fast tight he bend back so much you still see the hole even without the tail....Is muscle flexibility . ---------- Ralph

I have taken a bunch and this is the only one that is any good. It is grainy also. The Digitals dont do as well as high speed 35mm. May have to break out the old 35mm again with some 800 or 1000 speed film.
