Hey guys, over the past 3 days I have done a self proclaimed "experiment"..LOL.. I was curious on how often and if at all the parents turn their eggs. To start, I put a line on the eggs using a marker, with the line facing up. I checked the eggs 2 to 4 times daily to see if they had been turned, and how much. To my surprise, out of the 7 pair on eggs, 5 of them had been turned a few times daily, but the other 2 were only turned once daily, or there abouts. Does anyone know the actual ritual that the birds make in turning the eggs. Is it on a clock, or do they do it when changing turns to sit on eggs?..Thanks, jerry

i don't know, how many times they turn them.i have a automatic egg turner, that is used in the strofoom incubators, with the quail size egg holders to exercise the yokes if the foster parents are slow about laying back. i can hold a couple of eggs with good luck up to 5 days using the turner only, no heat, probably longer in a good cool place. the turner is a plus in anybodys loft that takes fostering serious. food for thought.

Arlen, for the most part, they were turned 1/4 turn, slightly more, slightly less, but I could tell they had been turned. 1 Pair would turn them 1/4 to 1/2, then when I would recheck, the line would be facing up again..weird..Jerry

How do they tell time? Mine change shifts with 5 minutes of the same time every day usually within three minutes or less. I do notice an egg roll at shift change. To what degree I am clueless.
