Pauls grizzles, some refer to them as white, derived from Hilton (Pensom) and Pensom blood of the old 626/601 blood from Lester Lehmeyer. There was also some Pensom red headed hen grizzle blood also. Paul always distinguished his birds as being from Pensom and Hilton families which was correct.

The grizzle side to the continental family I have is heavily influenced by the red headed hen. They are my deepest performers, ball bearing smooth rolling.Big Foot my deepest bird is an 80 footer, and has sired my best performing hen....Aloha,Todd

If so, why are these little fellas are unknowned to the roller world. Is it because they are not competition birds, attract hawk, and etc. Will got two young and it took me almost a year to find and own them. Other than that you'll find them on webshot and have no contact info.
dnd i got the last remaining from a breeder roller fancier. He only have one left and are going straight to the #1 team.

If my memory is correct, Paul passed away in 1993. That was 14 years ago. Paul was around for 40 years and was a fine gentleman and a good roller man. He had his beliefs and concentrated on what he desired. 40 years ago the majority of individuals had Pensom rollers. 40 years prior it was Whittinghams. 40 years from now kit competition may not be the in thing! Because something is not around today does not make it a bad thing or good thing it just may mean that many people are not interested in breeding self whites as Paul did or breeding Whittinghams, Caspersons etc.

Paul Platz whites were of the Pensom strain originally. At the time of his death the birds were purchased by a gentleman in Bakersfield by the name of Steve Parry. I have no knowledge of whether Steve still has this family or not.

I also get recessive (whites) from my grizzles and torts through my Plonas.
My theory is that these recessive birds had a common ancestor with the Platz whites via WH Pensom Black Country imports.

If Bill Penson got his birds from the black country, why do people call them birmingham rollers??? Birmingham is just a city in England...Wouldn't they be known as the black country rollers??? and im sure that Pensom wasn't the only one that imported rollers too...How could rollers at the time be speard threw out the US just from one guy??? Im pretty sure there were also a few guys that imported rollers too... ---------- Chai Seng

Good morning Fireballer_916....
They called it Black Country in the United Kingdom during the World War One era due to the smoke and soot in the English towns from all of the coal being burned in the machinist factories.
Many of the roller men worked in those coal burning factories during WWWI and manufactured military weapons.
......and
When they would get breaks from a hard days work... they could often be found in the English Pubs drinking up gobs of liquor and talking about who has the best rolling pigeons.... and so forth.
NOTE: In those days, many of the roller men in and around the Birmingham area usually lived just walking distance from where they worked and drank at.
Take care...

Steve Parry is a friend of mine and lives in Fresno, California. Steve bought the whole stud of Paul Platz white rollers whle he was living in the country side in Madera, California. I traded three pair of the Paul Platz whites for three pair of my Helmets. A few of the original are still being bred in my loft. Steve sold the entire stud to a roller breeder living in the San Dieago, California area. I got the privledge to talk and look at Pauls rollers at the NPA Grand National Show held in San Diego, California in 1978. Paul enjoyed showing his rollers at many shows held in southern California. He flew his rollers too. A real promoter in the pigeon fancy was Paul Platz. As ever, Ray Sanchez.

Lil Jess mds65 has some Platz and has written some info on them. He is trying to raise a full kit to fly. I had some but the hawks went through them pretty bad. That was many years back when I lived close to Jacksonville and it was hawk city.

I bought 2 pair of whites(3 orange eyed) a year ago and one hen died on me.The other that I thought was a hen turned out to be a very small(bull eyed) cock bird.So now I have three cock birds.I thought at the time they were Plaz birds but I read he never threw any bull eyed white because they were out of grizzles.I have some in the air out of all three cocks. They are crossed on three different familys to see which they click with.I have them with a Rick Mee hen,one with a pensom hen and the other with a Danny Horner Jaconette hen.
