George
Raised hogs, cattle, and pigeons for fun and profit. My Uncle was PA Hartman of Oklahoma. He was a real hog breeder. Brought me a couple of show pigs every fall.

I showed Spotted Poland China hogs. Took 1st twice at the regional level and 7th in the state. Personally I got the showmanship award my junior year of high school at regional and 3rd in state on my senior year.

My dad and I raised Hereford cattle for 7 years just for something to do when my parents bought a small place in the country. 10-15 head nothing to get really excited about.

In pigeons my brother and I raised and showed,Helmets and Indian Fantails.

We had several breeds, homers, rollers, muffed tumblers, helmets, fantails and indian fantails.
Took 1,2,3 in 79 and 80 at the South Plains Fair in Lubbock. I think we came in fifth as our top accomplishment in the racer world. Didn`t have the time neccessary to be really competetive.
I got back into rollers in 04. Been here ever since.

George, I have had rollers in and out of my life for the last 18 years, well when I was a kid they were rolldowns from Pacheco and Victorio Gutierrez, and raised game birds for about 5 years.

I grew up on a horse ranch. But I was more of the bird person. If it had feathers and was domesticated, I've owned it at one time or another.

Well,

Of course I raised pigeons as a youth. I have dogs...and hunt with My black lab and was raised with labs. As for other animals...I was in 4-H and FFA. I had my own breeding project or herd of La Mancha Dairy goats. At the time that I got out of goats...I had about 20 head of goats...I had National, state and local Grand Champion Milkers from Yearling Milkers to Old Milkers. All 20 head of breeders were Champion or Reserve Champions at some point and they all produced champion caliper off spring. At the time 20 years ago...I was selling doe kids at about 400.00 a pop and a proven yearling milker I would sell for around 2,000.00. My highest selling doe was a 2 year old milker named Peaches' Irish Lady...she sold for 2800.00..to a breeder out of state....I had 2 Champion Bucks that I sold there male magic potion for a couple hundered a pop..LOL... and I was in partners with a buck Known as Viceroy's Sweepstakes. I also had a Champion and Proven Buck....Sweepstakes Midnight Magic. All my goats were purbred and registered through the American Dairy Goat Association. I worked a Goat Dairy for a couple years and was the milker (100 head morning and night). I was then hired by Dairys to Pick, Prepare and show there goats in State and National Venues. I was a Master Showman and took 1st place in every Dairy Goat Showmanship competition that I entered...I also Judged Goat Shows for years.

I raised Sheep and Hogs for Market. I also worked for local Sheep farmers to vaccinate, dock and casterate about 300-400 head of lambs and Vaccinate up to 250 head of breeding ewes. I also won numerous showmanship competitions for sheep as well as swine.

With my breeding project, I managed every aspect from breeding, feeding, vaccinating and milking.

I rode a lot of horses...the ranch that I housed my Goats and other livestock projects had numerous horsest that I helped care for...I also raised some nice steers for market.

I won round robin showmanship awards at the state and county level and wrote a book about 20 years ago on how to prepare for a round robin show...it was called the Round Robin Handbook and believe it or not...it is still used today..LOL!!

I was also a 4-H all-star and Hold and FFA state Farmer degree for my Goat projects.

I was raised in a small town of about 1300 people...it used to be 1302 but my brother and I left..LOL!! It was a farming community with a huge amount of Almond orchards and sheep and beef farmers.

Anyway...during this time I of course had my pigeons.

Raised, hunted and ran beagles in field trail competitions for years .Still would be doing it if our hare population had not dwindled due to too many coyotes.

As a kid raised in the country we had horses, ponies rabbits, chickens, geese, pigs, dogs and a 24 pound tiger striped cat that ran stray dogs out of the yard! LOL
THen there was the occasional odd ball. One year we raised a baby groundhog and kept it for a year. It followed my brother and I around like a puppy but got overly protective around strangers so we took it far from home and turned him loose.
One year I found a baby squirrel that we bottle fed and kept for several years. He would ride around on moms shoulder everywhere. she even took him to the bar a couple times to pick Dad up from THE OFFICE...
And myself, I was always fascinated with the pigeons. I would catch the commies from the barns in the area. I built my first loft at about 12 or 13 yeara old. I had some Nuns that I bought from one of our feed suppliers, and fantails and some tumblers and rollers, which none of the kids in the neighborhood knew anything about. But we all had them and just let them free loft and fly pretty much as they pleased.
I now have nubian and pigmy goats and banty chickens. MY daughter also found some old frillbacks, pouters and giant runts that I keep for them in anouther loft. And of course MY ROLLERS. THat about does it...I think... Butch

Had dogs and cats since 8 years old, pigeons when I was 10,11,12.Worked on a dairy farm when I was 15 living in New Zealand and went on to testing dairy herds awhile.Had more dogs and cats chickens and ducks when I had kids in the 80s.Picked up a Silky Terrier in Guatemala when I lived on a trimaran sailing around the Caribean in the 90s.Needed an early warning device for pirates down there.Got 3 Australian Terriers now and since last year I'm 100% confirmed pigeon nut with Neible rollers and white racers I'm using for White Dove release business.Always been intrigued by life in the ocean and used to love commercial Salmon,Halibut and Herring fishing.Been right amongst the entire south coast of B.C. Killer Whale population twice as they were having a summer party on the Gulf of Georgia with them jumping and playing all around our skiff so close you could touch them. Will never forget touching a baby dolphin on the fin as it swam with it's family around the bow of my sailboat as I sailed away from Guatemala on my way to Cartegena,Colombia. On that trip hooked at least a 25 lb Mahi Mahi(Dolphin Fish)while cruising off the coast of Honduras but the line was to short and he took it,SNAP!only to give us a show while he jumped outta the water many times trying to shake the tuna jig out of his mouth.Love hanging out with my dogs and birds. They don't give me any bullshit,or bug me to file my income taxes.Humans are ok but animals are the best!!!!

As a kid we raised various breeds of Chickens, plus geese, ducks ,Peacocks , goats , sheep , horses, cattle , plus I had many breeds of pigeons, I also helped out on a goat and cow dairy that was down the street.
Through High School I was in FFA , projects were ,Sheep, Cattle and Racing Homers.
Today I still keep a few chickens pecking around, plus have a few geese and a dumb duck that is in love with one of the geese.
Plus I keep a few Barbadoes Sheep , and I am a little dog rich at the moment with four dogs , two of which are young labs that I refere to as simply the "idiots".
I also have three cats that I have to fight with every night for my fair share of the bed .
I try to keep the populations of everything under control these days, it can get out of hand on you in a heartbeat.
