I have a question what would you say has been your best kit of birds? how many hens? vs how many cocks? or do you believe in flying just hen or cock kits? Thanks
Sal

in my opinion, cocks and hens, every bird that had a mate in the kit, I notice that the birds are more frequent if they have a mate, guess it's like they are showing off or something...

I fly mixed kits also. They fly better this way for me. The other reason is, if I lose a kit for overfly, it won't be devistating if the kit was separated by sex.

Sal my kits have been mainly cocks and hens together but i have flown them seperate didn't notice any difference but for the season that they want to mate is when i like to seperate the hens sometimes but if managed right you don't have any or little problems. John M.Loft(HDRC)So,Cal.

guys thanks for your taughts, I basically fly a mixed group for the most part! I have just heard from a lot of guys on how they manage their kits differently and are still successful!

The majority of my A team are hens, there are about 15 hens the rest are @#@$ i fly them together and they don't really have a problem at all, but i also seem to breed more hens, im starting with a new family so its gonna be different this year..

My team is about 50/50. but that varies a little, weekly, as birds are demoted and promoted. I pulled several of the good hens into the stock loft until the National Championship in the fall. They are being housed together, right now, but I see some beak pulling and a couple good cocks seem to have their minds on the ladies instead of their performance! LOL! So this weekend, I plan to house them separate and fly them together while they continue getting in shape. Speed and quality are coming along nicely, but not much concert performance to speak of...mostly quarter turns.
YITS,
Cliff

If I had my drethers I would rather fly an all cock kit with maybe one hen to stimulate them. Cocks are much easier to maintain control over. Just wish I could raise more good cocks versus hens.

Brian, you are right on the subject! I am looking at a 60% hens versus 40% cocks
