Guys,
Yesterday one of my hens spun out an under developed egg.The unfortunate part was her insides were still attached and forming the egg.I was confused when I saw some of the egg and insides on the grass, but later on,I saw blood on the landing board and knew something was wrong, really wrong.I found the hen with her insides hanging out about an inch and a half.I cleaned her up,and iodined the insides and gently eased them back into her and massaged the vent area to hopefully get them back in place. She perked up alittle,I'm not sure if she will live, but breeding her is definetly out, what a bummer she was a very good hen...Aloha Todd

Alohazona a while back i had i a kit bird that rolled her egg sack out i push it back in she didn't survive but there's a chance she could make it just keep an eye on her just in case it comes back out good luck. John M.Loft(HDRC)So,Cal.

I have this happen to me as well. I think it will be difficult for the bird to survive. If the egg was further along and near to laying stage you would have had no problems. It sometimes is a tough life and I feel sorry for both the bird and you.

Milo

I feel for you. I had to cull probably my best spinner last week from the same thing.

Guys, she's fine, she's even crapping half way decent.I think a little timely intervention went a long way this time.If found alittle later,I think she would have been a goner....Aloha,Todd

Is it best to keep a hen in the box when the others are flying if she has just laid one egg and likely to have another one ready to come? What about if they are acting broody on the floor?I mean, what can you do if you want to prevent injury but at the same time you want to get the kit in shape for prelims? My guess is we have to fly them and hope for the best.

Kel,
My best bet has to been pull em for a few days if you have any doubts at all. I cut back the feed and try to rearrange so they don`t have anywhere to brood.
My birds are laying on the floor, trying to nest in the corners.I`ll keep cutting back the seed till they quit. This is what really sux about flying early in the spring.
