I only have 1 pr of my Gary Stephens birds. They are 97s, but are still pumping out eggs. I have 1 pr of young from them, that are both hens and of breeding age. For fear of the pr will stop producing if I seperate them, thinking about putting the original pr in a middle cage with a daughter on each side until they act ready. Then letting him in one at a time each day with the young hens until he treads them and if they will lay, foster out the eggs. Is this posible or am I thinking wrong? Has anyone experience with this and how hard is it?

I recall posting a similar question back in 2005 and received some very decent responses. However, I've tried it a couple of times and got nowhere. For example, I had a loft full of hens, sitting doing nothing, as it wasn't their turn to breed. I stuck one of my horniest cocks in with them for a few hours at a time, whilst his proper missus was sitting eggs. Sure enough, these hens were quick to squat and him to tread, but I never received an egg to foster out.
More recently, I wanted to pair two 2006 hens back to their father, so I gave the three of them plenty of space together. The cock paired quickly with one daughter, but then that pair turned on the other hen, so she had to be removed. So, I got two eggs to foster, but no quicker than if I'd gone the traditional route of a straightforward pairing.
It remains a work in progress.

Electric-man You can pr all 3 hens to 1 cock using the BULL SYSTEM and float the eggs under pumpers that way you will get 6 young from 1 round with the blood line that you are after. Better using 3 cages filled with nest bowls and the hens, adapt a corridor in front on the cages so that the cock can pr up to the 3 hens the cock will walks down the corridor pairing to all 3 hens. The hens will lower there backside through the wire to the cocks when ready this is when you know the time is ready to introduce the cock. Let the cock into each hen until you see the cock mounts the hen. Do this on numerous occasions. There is numerous ways you can do the bull system but this is the 1 that works. Make sure that the cocks n hens have been split up for a few weeks this will make the cock really keen, I am not the best at describing things accurately but i hope you get my meaning, Best of luck anyway Regards W@yne uk

Electric-man, There is a good article on polygamy breeding in this months NBRC bulletin. Give dimensions on how to build a purpose built box along with how it all works. I believe the article was "Some Thoughts on How to Develop a Family of Rollers". Keith
