I'll try on this one but i think it means a 50/50, to get what you don't have and get more from what you have.

Isn't that when you breed the best kit birds with depth of roll, velocity and control. In my loft the colour will probably come out red, mealy, blue with bars, blue check, black and white or blue and white.Simple.

Color balancing dictates specific mating of birds based on feather and eye color. This practice is based on the theory that ceratin color birds or birds pocessing certain eye colors should not be mated together because of negative traits being passed on to their offspring or vice versa, certain positives traits being passed on to the offspring upon proper color balancing when mating.

ps: I personally don't believe in this practice!

Breeding hard colored birds that have become less frequesnt to soft colored birds with the view of increasing frequency and yet keep control.

Spud, you are right on the money! as far as the question went, I think it depends on the family of birds they keep, I have been to some lofts and the color system changes at each! thus meaning it really depends on what family of birds you are breeding, and what you are really seeking from your family of birds.

It is a myth and give something to talk about, discuss and argue just like eye color.

That is easy Nick, it simply means to use color as a base for determining charactor , hard color birds are generaly stronger charactor while soft color are weaker , (weaker more roll/stronger more control).
Of coarse you can't blanket every family (such as my own) and every bird with just simply hard and soft color, but many.
But even in my own family of hard colored birds there is a soft and hard side (smokey being the soft) that I very much pay attention to when pairing which is the same thing , it is very very real I can assure you.
One problem is far to many have birds from all over and a cess pool of gene's of different families and birds.
They just can't get past the surface on figuring out the little details under these type of circumstances as there is no consistancy and thier birds breed all over the board , and then some just can't or havn't figured out the little details.

When I put lavendars together more than 1 generation, seems I tend to get REALLY HOT birds. I put a lav on a blue in the family and it appears to put the control back.

So I do color balanced breeding to keep the heat going strong and bring back control in my Ruby family.
