Milo, glad to hear you made the right choice for you. also glad to hear you have a good partner. Someone who knows you and what really makes you tick.... rollers. Now , how bout a possible helping idea to the problem in your area. Brian said something that made me think, and it did hurt a little ,but still, I kept thinking about it and I gotta throw something out there. What kind of ferral population is in your area? Is it possible to take the lure of your birds being easy prey away from the BOP. Is it illegal to turn loose ferral birds and flood an area with them?? just a question... Does any body have any other ideas?

In this area I dont have a huge problem with them, but they do get a few. BUT, we have a lot of farms and a lot of ferral birds in the area. We also have a lot of other wildlife that they may be feeding on. Maybe that is the difference from here to there. I havent been hit in a month now.
If we all started releasing ferral birds it might make a difference, or it might get us noticed and give us a chance to at least make a point to someone who might listen. Either way we have to do something. The BOP are winning, because they take the offensive path, while we just sit back and hope it gets better. Somehow there has to be a right to have our birds and be able to protect them. But has any of us even contacted anyone to ask for it??? I dont know where I`m rambling to tonight but I`m done. Just some thought put out there for all to see. respond if you wish ...or not... Butch

All aboard the sympathy bus!! LOL LOL Especially you Brian. LOL Flew the young team and lost one 5 minutes in to a young peregrine. Felt it was safe after they landed, put the A team out (the last 10 of them) and another peregrine took an A teamer...LOL You guys are funny. I'm gonna fly them all out, and then I'll put out the breeders...LOL You think I'm kidding?

Milo, you aren't the only one losing birds...lol. I don't think our winter hold over falcons are leaving. I have in my log book that April is the worst time to fly and once again this month has been brutal. Lost two teams this weekend, got most back but of course the falcons and red tails had their way with the best ones. Even had one kit that was just judged in our club fly get ran off, then watched them at Johns house four miles away above his kit while they were being judged..lol. Kicked the babies out on Tuesday and the falcon snatched one of those two. Funny thing was I was looking at my log book this evening and on April 15th of last year I had the same thing happen and lost nine from my comp kit. Not only did I back it up to the day a year later, but the very next day too..lol. Don't ya just love roller flying.

Milo

Im trying something different this year. instead of flying my 06 and 05 birds there in the breeding loft now . the hawks are so bad here that . I had two hanging on the fly pen and one sitting on the roof at the some time today, the window for flying birds is getting smaller and smaller ever year. I have the red tails all year round here but when the coopers show up it a whole new ball game, I live on an island water and salt marshes all around me hawk heaven, HANG IN THERE MILO

Amen KGB!!! I've had one Cooper try to attack the kit once and have never seen a BOP before or after that. I've had Coopers fly right through the middle of my kit and the birds didn't even hardly notice and the Cooper wasn't even interested. I live in Idaho and don't have issues, at least not yet, knock on wood! LOL!

You know what Kenny, if I could convince the wife, the moving truck would be pulling up tomorrow, and you'd have a new neighbor.

Peregrine here again on thursday it hit the kit from underneath at unreal speed fully closed up. It hit 1 bird and sliced its breast not to bad but it was totally reckless it must of been really hungry, then the kit landed on the loft but 1 bird went to a dot in the sky i watched the pere climb for the bird and what a display of wit the roller showed, the pere made its move full steam and hit my bird but didnt get hold but i thought it will just turn round and pick him of but the roller just went vertical it put my dewlaps (diving pigeons for those who dont no) to shame i was well impressed he out smarted the peregrine from a 1000ft. So this week stands at peregrine 1 rollers 1.
