Guys, I have had excellent LUCK the past 3 years, ONLY being hit 3 times in 3 years...BUT, within the past 2 months, I have been hit 5 times now....Today, I let them out, the first in 2 days because of weather..They were up 30 mins. and were coming in when I heard the sound we all hear when their close..the WHOOOSSSHHHH of the hawks wings..I looked up to see him grab that cock that I put back into the air from the loft...well, he flew straight to the ground. I yelled and off went the pigeon, landing on the loft roof....2 minutes later, while the others were about 200 feet up, he grabbed an 07 bird...again, flew to the ground in the neighbors yard..I ran over, and the pigeon flew away!
Then, while trying to get the Y/B's in so they didnt get hit while sunning on the roof, another damn hawk flew down from somewhere, smacked into the side of my kitbox, landed at my feet, then flew off like a bat outta hell...
Here is a pic of the 07 bird he got..Looks like he may be ok in a few days...maybe.

I hear ya Val, I "thought" that they had moved on, and before today, hadn't seen one in a week. It is supposed to rain for a few days, so that might force me to keep em' in. Hope ya get them back, in 1 piece!

Thanks Jerry, For someone I've never met, I've sure taken a liken to you! They been up for three hrs and 15 min, their on their own. I've got to go to work!
You know, not only are the pigeons being wiped out but ther is no song birds or hardly anything around anymore. My wife has always had a yard full of bird houses and the sparrows aren't even using them! Something nneds to be done!

DDT my thoughts exactly one lesson ive learned the hard way is not to fly on the day after its been raining because the bops arent doing anything in the rain so when it lets up they are hungry as hell hey that little lesson only cost me about 5 birds it is a damn shame something can not be done about this one of many problems we have smk

Looks like I lost three for the day, My two youngest, one of them ws doing some nice tailrides, and of course my very best bird! 20-25 ft tight spin, come out going the same way, just a blur when it rolled! Its like its stamped on their forhead!PICK ME!!LOL
Well, lesson learned! Go with your gut, when things are too quiet and your instincs say no, don't open the door! I had 3 or 4 weeks with no sharks but this front has sure got them on the move again!
Good luck to the rest of you guys!

Thanks Val, I am just your typical, dont take everything to seriously kinda guy, unless called for. If I ever get over that way, I will look ya up for sure.
Glad you got most of them back, especially for them flying for so long. Yesterday was kinda weird for me..When I was doing my chores, I noticed the doves fluttering around, trying to impress a mate while airborn, the black birds were everywhere, and the bluejays were abundant....I thought, heck this will be a great day....Well, it was for about the first 30 minutes!
My injuried bird was still dripping blood at dark..I used some of my horse wound meds. on him called Wonder Dust..That stuff works wonders!..within 2 minutes, the blood had stopped, and he actually ate something....I just hope he is that way come daylight... ----------

Good morning Jerry...
About that horse wound medicine called Wonder Dust; how much does it cost and does it work very good?
{P.S.} Sorry to hear about your birds being attacked by a hawk. I guess that's the downside in this sport.

Good Morning Marcus, The Wonder Dust powder has been used by livestock breeders/feeders for many years...It is a wound/cut healer and works very well on everything I have put it on..I had a horse get into the fence a few weeks back, doing damage to both legs..She is back to normal, with just a few marks here and there now..
Sal is right about the Red-Kote..It is another wound medicine used in all animals from game/livestock,dogs/cats/etc...It comes in a liquid form or an aerosol spray...I use the spray..It works really well also...
The Wonder Dust also dries out the dead skin and prevents infection to open wounds..
Both of these products can be found at feed/pet stores and are about $6.00 each..
P.S...my injured bird lost his fight...1 for 1 I guess ----------

Not on that bird Scott. It was 2 holes, tho it appeared that the skin was just tore, and not actually puncturing into the meat..
