Jim Good looking youngsters look nice n healthy. One question Jim do badges and magpies fly similar in roll and height and can you fly these breeds together?. Just that i don't know many flyers up this neck of the woods that have these breeds. Maybe you could write a little about these breeds in flying techniques and feeding these birds and getting them in condition to be at their peak it will give some insight into your birds. I am sure the guys across the water would like to hear some history about your birds i know i would. (I think fantail Ste would also Lol) Your pie eating buddy W@yne uk

Wayne, the magpies are a casual type of roller, not really a competition bird, not as good as the badge or br,a backyard sort although i have seen kits years ago that were very good as kits, but people have bred for looks rather than spin over the years and spoilt them a bit, they are a bit thin on the ground now ,not many people have them round here,i picked up a couple of pairs that roll pretty good and i am trying to get a kit together, one pair of yellow mags i have are years old and have not filled a pair of eggs yet, years ago i knew a chap that flew them and fed them on wheat only plus grit and they really did spin good, but good kits are few and far between now, also at doncaster show you will find a few but they have spoilt them ,crossing into short-faced birds and the head and beak are far too short making parental feeding hard, the youngsters are generally poor from these birds,no problem with the badges although i admit i do breed with looks in mind, incidentally one reason the mags are thin on the ground is a guy came over from ireland a couple of years ago paying silly money for mags ( 25 to 30 pounds for unseen birds lol) and a lot of flyers cashed in and went back into badges, some of the birds he bought were absolute s--t but he still took all he could get his hands on so not many about now,the badges are easy to keep ,you have to weed out the good from the bad the same as any breed but for kitting i would not find any better round here, Wayne if you come across any mags let me know i could do with some hens you never know you might come across some on your travels, also keep your eye out for one of those boat guns, the ones that look like cannons and can knock down a block of flats from twenty feet lol i have to have the upper hand this year over the peregrines lol,see you later,JIM (carrot cruncher) ps hope Steves fantails are OK lol.

Lost a Red Badge squeeker today that looks just like the 2 youngsters in trhe 1st photo above. Maybe it will show up some time tomorrow.
Had high hopes for that bird. The dam is a frequent 25 foot 2005 Red Badge/white flights (Hilton family) that rolled with high velocity on a H-style back spin. The sire is a 2005 odd eye Blue Check Badge/white flights 30ft-40ft performer (Plona family) that has bred me a lot of good birds off of 2 seperate hens already.
Keeping my fingers crossed that my little squeeker comes back home soon.

I hope the squeeker comes back too. I'm not a color guy (performance is rule #1 with me) however it sure was a good looking bird in the kit box in comparison to my torts, checks & bars.

Steve,i have gone through a bit of a rebuilding programme this breeding season, ive increased my true brs and cut down on the badges only keeping the best, ive got to collect some more brs from brum soon,i did not ring any young this year, the white selfs i had have gone back to a friend who is working with them ,i also gave away all my black badges to start a new guy coming in,thirty birds have gone to brum in total and im getting back some nice feed-back, steve do you know if the doncaster show is on in december ??,i have another thirty birds to go from here and then i will be set for the new year, see ya later ,Jim.

Hey.... roll-n-4-ever
I really like that "Pearl Eyed Blue Check Badge Norm Reed Cock" with the plastic yellow band.
Looks very similar to a bird I have on a 25ft tight-spinning Black Mottle hen.
