Not sure what to call that bird. I bred one just like it last year without the white head, from the same parents.

I have bred 30 young so far this year. 8 pair on eggs again and have a few others that were younger than the ones pictured.

Jerry,
That is simply a clean spread ash red bar baldhead, also known as lavender. You have some bronzes with the dirty and sooty genes present. They tend to prevent the clean expression of some colors.

Thanks Gregg,
Not to hip on the color thingy. I just get what I get, put them in the air, and that determines where they end up.

Hello gotspin,
If you are talking about the 2nd to last pic, the birds on the right and left, yes they are from the same pair, different hatch.

The squeeks at top are pictured with their nestmates.

I hope to do well with these.

Sup Rudy,
No, that is from the cock I sent to PA.... I still have 2 pepperheads from him that are good..Both in the A-Team..I bred from one of them this winter and lost all 3 rounds to one thing or another!

Bills black cock has thrown only blacks and dark blue checks.

Good evening Jerry...

Look likes you've been rather busy. Good job!

I like that Dark Tort squeaker in the first frame and the Redchecker in the 3rd frame. Overall, the group of youngsters all look quite healthy and eager to perform for you. Especially those '07 birds gathering up some fresh air outside before being lockdown back in the kitbox.

Talk to you later...

Jerry,

You got some good looking stuff going on there. Young birds always look and act dorky, don't they? Funny little buggers.

Missouri - very nice body type there too!! Bet he performs good? He is a keeper. Also your birds seem to be in pretty darn good condition, for example, look at that red bald head close up!!

Oh I see.... it's going to be a Pepperhead. Thought it was a Tortoiseshell in the 1st frame.

Torts, Grizzles, Pepperheads and sometimes Mottles & Cheques will run in the same family

Hey Rudy.... those Mason birds look like they are packing the goods and ready to do something that's worth watching in the air. Right on bro wth your bad self!

Hi Jerry!
It's great to see your new baby pics. I like those grouse legs in there! While you are on this very topic, I want to thank you again for that black/pepperhead muffed cock... I think he's awesome! I like him so much I want to build a little family around him, as a project to work on.... a muffed roller project. He's a great parent, and has produced some fine looking youngsters (most of which have grouse legs), with an Indigo Blue Bar hen I have. I am picking out two of those to send to a one loft fly for the club. Maybe they'll do pretty well... if you have some of this cock's kids in your A team! I have hope anyway. You said he produces offspring that will roll with style and depth.

What is the background "family" of this black muffed cock anyway?? Never knew what it was; but I remember you saying the guy you got him from flew him out and he was a good performer, with decent depth and good style.

MANY, MANY THANKS!!..... we call the bird "Missouri Flyer".

Best wishes for a super season!

Thanks Nick,
Yes they are dorky, but that is one of the more enjoyable parts of this hobby for me, to see them go from an UGLY hatchling, to a mature bird.

Thanks Kop,
That is an odd looking picture of that bird. He is a sharp looking feller. I have him mated to a dark B/C W/F. I had him on a hen that wouldnt lay all of last year, and just fostered eggs with them. The guy who I got the cock from gave me a sharp hen to go with him, so now I will see how his young perform...The Lavender B/H is a solid bird. He has black ticking in his feathering now.

KRIS....How are ya???!!!!!... I thought maybe you fell off of the planet...Glad that cock is serving you well. He was bred and flew out by a local flier by the name of V.L "Spike" Gilmore. That was one of the original cocks that I started with. All of my birds come from Spike and another club member, Bill Roy. When Spike gave me the birds I started with, I wrote a side note on a piece of paper..The note I have for that bird is " excellent spinner, deep, good kitting". If you look at some of the above pics, you will see a pepperhead. That bird if off of him, as well as the pepperhead that you can see behind the baldhad cock above. EVERY bird I bred off of that cock was a good bird. I never had a single one that didnt perform. I had him on the same hen "blue check" for the years that I had him. I lost 2 full kits to overflys in 04 and 05, and had 7 in the 05 kit of his that were excellent birds. I pulled the above pepperhead from the kitbox this winter and bred a few rounds out of her. Good to see your still around....Good luck with your club fly. I hope the young off of that cock tear up the skys for you!
P.S...excellent name for the bird...LOL

Scott,
I just turned it over and stuck it back on the bed...She kept asking me if I took a shower, because it smelled like "pigeon poop" in the bedroom...LOL

Tou,
That is a Lavender Bald-Head White Flight. I have bred 3 of those in the past 4 years. I have a squeak in the nest now that is from the same parents. He doesn't have white on his head, but does have the white flights.

Hey Jerry!
Yep, I'm still around... not going anywhere! (Not going anywhere fast, anyway! LOL!!) I come over here every so often to read some posts and see what I can learn. But I hadn't been here in a long while, and I just logged in and happened to catch this post... showing your squeakers, and the mention of the black cock you sent to PA.

Thanks for all the info on the muffed cock! It means a great deal to me to have him; he's very valuable to me. Him and several really nice Tony Roberts birds, and Turner birds I have.

I had archived the photo of him and his pepperhead son (from last year)... I remember you saying one son was "hot", another son developed into a really nice performer (rolling 30-40 feet in great style). That's great that all of his offspring can be expected to roll and perform... it gives me hope! It might take me a long while to get there... but I'm really enjoying the process. I have learned alot in a fairly short time, and everyone's been great!

Next stop... see if I can get over to this guy's loft this summer and listen to what he has to say and show... he was mentored by Ralph Hilton when he lived out in California many moons ago. Gil's gotta be in his early 70s now I bet. He's probably the closest "flying roller guy" to me... only 25 minutes away.

Thanks again... I should check in more often! LOL!

Kris,
If you get a chance to visit the roller guy in your area, make sure you ask any and all questions that you have, as I am sure he can give me alot of information on breeding, training, flying, etc...

Did you get any young off of him last year?..If so, and you have the equipment to take pictures and email them, send me a few so I can see how they turned out..my email is the same...

I dont have much muffed or booted stuff left. I lost all of my muffed kitbirds to those overflys, and have not been getting many more muffed young. I think in my 2 kits I am flying now, I have maybe 4. One is a nice white grizzle hen that tears the sky up.... She is in my A-Team... If you need a good hen to go with that cock, let me know and I will send you this hen after the W/C in May.
