Will the redtails attack rollers? How about falcons?
Just wondering have seen both flying around my neighbor hood.

Thanks

You aren't going to "see" falcons strolling through your neighborhood, they don't cruise around gliding visably like Red Tails do. And the answer to your question is yes, both will lay waste to a kit of rollers if given the chance.

Redtails, Coopers, Goshawks have taken thier toll on my birds here in Eastern Arkansas. I have had some falcon attacks as well. The falcons are the most troublesome to me. They are better flyers than the hawks and are more cunning.

I worry about all of them, but less about the Redtails. My birds usually do better against the Redtail. They are bigger and manuever slower than the others, especially the falcons. Even the little Kesteral will harrass them even being too small to make a sure kill they can harm the birds sometimes enough to eventually kill.

It is a bigger problem with the Rollers verses your Homers. Your Homers are much more powerful fliers.

I have seen a falcon in the trees behind my house.
Nick, I called you earlier and was wondering if
I could come and see your birds this evening.

Thanks Tripp...

Tripp don’t worry about the redtails they are slow and rarely go after pigeons. Now the damn FALCONS are a different story, they will clean you out if given a chance because pigeons don’t have a chance against them. Coopers are little slower so birds have some chance of getting away. Just watch those freaking falcons. Later

Yeah they got 12 out of 17 hommers last year! So yeah I
hate a falcon and I have even had an owl hit them in the evening when they was getting ready to go back in the house!!

I only have 6 hommers now..
So I rarely see the falcon anymore!

I have had a red tail go after my rollers...but it was not even and issue...he just dived a couple times....and gave up...now Coopers are vicious little bastards and they will eat you up...and if you have Falcons...they are built for killing pigeons...perios...and they do not glide...they post and wait like a cooper....and then take to the air...

I actually LOVE haveing red tails near my loft...I have a big oak about 5 houses down...the oak is at least 80ft tall...and I have a pair of Red tails that raise young there every year. They pull out right at Winter and return in the spring....when they return....the coopers are chased off...I have not seen a cooper since Late Feb.....

The red tails glide about 100' over the loft with the young birds sitting on the roof and they just fly right on by....the old birds don't even worry about them.....anyway...I guess I am just lucky.

Coming over the I-40 bridge take the Mound City exit; go right; at first stop sign (T) continue or turn right; stay on this road until Trigg Drive or road(I am not sure, but Trigg)go to stop sign and turn right(that is Geelan Drive); go about two blocks anf I will be on the right. Address: 344 Geelan Drive

Paul/All,

I used to feel the same way you do about redtails. Then I saw one stoop (dive) on a kit like a falcon, pluck a recessive red without disturbibg the kit much and fly south to pass it off in middair to the mate and youngster that were gliding.

They can be deadly if they learn how to do it.

Let a RedTail get a taste of Roller and see what happens , they can be real killers once they figure it out.

Redtails haven't caught any of my birds. BUT they drive them up high and circle under them. Both of my fly aways happened because of redtails. They bother my kits almost everyday. About 1000 yrd's from my loft was a big oak they had a nest in every year. I see they loged some of the big trees, and just happened that they just cut it down. YE Ha!!!. They must be in some of the other woods around here because they are still here dang it! I just got my computer back today after being at the shop for a week! Good to be back on line. Tapp, PS, they dive through them and scare the shit out of them, then go on there merry way!
