Keep flying them. In can take several weeks or months for a kit to come back into form.

KEEP FLYING IS THE RIGHT ANSWER.... HOW LONG HAS THE BIRDS BEEN LOCKED UP? WAS THE BIRDS KITTING AND ROLLING BEFORE YOU LOCKED THEM UP? IF THE BIRDS WERE ROLLING AND KITTING BEFORE YOU LOCKED THEM UP AND IT TAKES THEM MONTHS TO BECOME WHAT THEY WERE THATS ANOTHER PROBLEM.... LOL KEEP EM IN THE AIR 2 TIMES A DAY IF YOU CAN UNTIL THEY GET RIGHT..

put them on wheat and milo....and fly them everyday....if you can fly them twice a day...try that too...they will get back into form...it just takes time.

Roller0 More info needed really How old are the birds.? Did the birds kit before lock up.? The birds most certainly be overweight and carrying a lot of fat that needs to be replaced with muscle. Try splitting the kit in three and start flying the birds observing and adding 1 to 2 birds at a time each day you fly and also watch for the lazy birds. The lazy birds just add them to the kit when you notice the kit lowering say for the last five minutes of flying time this way you will condition the overweight birds eventually. It will just take time and observation. Like kcfirl says it will take time. Hope this helps W@YNE UK

The lock down does not effect them as bad as people think.
I locked down when I lived in So Cal. and the birds were always easy to get going again .
If the birds were trained the right way then they will not forget the routine ,it will take a few weeks of flying but thats no big deal.
Thanks George

The kitting will come back around but you need to keep them in the air and the best way I have found to do that is to box them up and take them up the road about 1/4 mile and release them. This will also aid in the kitting department but primarily in making them gain altitude in order to find their way home. Joe suggestion is a good one. Has worked for me on several occasions. They will cling together and climb to search for thier home. It will shorten the training time to kit. If you got some lazy birds who like to land early this will also help bring that out of them. That kit box is a safe haven for them. They will learned to fly and the will learn to kit. You might have to do it more than once, but it works.

If they were just starting to kit when they were locked up, it will take a few months and some may never develop the roll properly. That is my experience.
The birds that get locked up should be kitting well, flying 6 months, and well into the roll before locking up if at all possible.
If not possible, plan on flying them for a few months in the Spring before you see anything good.
