I want to thank you, Paul, for taking the time to share your conditioning program with me, buddy! I had to modify it a little. My birds fell apart on it....not enough protein for my family. They were bumping and sloppy. So I added some peas to the mix and they straightened right out. They performed consistantly throughout the rest of the program and came out hot, but they didn't want to go up. They didn't elevate past 150 ft! So it hurt my Q and D, but their work rate was super! Clay opened the door for me by taking his birds down so far that a cold snap of 38 degrees sapped his birds and they didn't fly the time. Sound familiar, Scott? LOL! (You're in good company, though.) So now to get them ready in two weeks for the finals. Hmmmmmmmmmm! I don't think I'll change anything! YITS, Cliff

Hey Cliff, Could you enlighten us on the conditioning program you used. Well, ok. you might waant to wait till after the finals . LOL.... Cant blaim me for being curious. I havent flown yet, and I doubt I would change what seams to be working so far. I got 12 days till I fly prelims.
Im flying 3 days hard right now with 2 days off. Full feed the first fly day. 3/4 feed the second day. And half the third day. Back to full feed with peas the first day off. 3/4 feed the second day off, wheat, milo and canary seed. Then fly day again. so far they look better than I ever thought they would. Guess we`ll see on June second.
This will be my first W/C and my first time trying to fly 20 birds. Well, OK, I did get 18 to work together.I hope I dont screw this up, cause the birds are looking like they can do their part. It`s my part that scares me...

Hey Cliff,
I am glad that I could help you out. It took me a couple years to wrap my arms around that program. I figured that you would have to do some modifications to it. I know that I even have to do minor tweaks with my birds...but the base is there. This years W/C..we had it get real cold the week before the fly and it kind of messed me up a little....I kind of screwed up...I fed up for the cold a little in the program...but then I put a heater in the loft and fed up a little to much...I should have put the heater in and left the feed alone..but it was hard to judge. They were close to where I wanted them when I locked them down...but I really think I screwed up during the feeding while they were resting....by usuing the heater.....that is why I feel my birds scored in the first 8 minutes and then flew fast..on me.... Anyway..I am glad that it worked out for you...I hope you wrote down you adjustments for next time. I forgot to tell you...I also write down the weather conditions for each day of my schedule etc.
as for the peas....I never have to really worry about getting my birds up...I use 28% protein pellets instead of peas and it seems to work better for my birds..plus the mort and Rubys are pretty strong and can take the wheat pretty good.
As for the finals....you may want to keep them on a mix for about 4 to 5 days or so...then start a the program again..without the water addatives....and just shorten it but do the same for rest and rations before the fly. The are broke down and getting them the good feed for 4 or 5 days will make them feel good again so you can put the wheat to them again...anyway...that is what I do and it works....Glad I can help

Cliff,
You have qualified for the finals and I have already noted a change in the credibility level people now have for you and your birds.
Again, good job Cliff. I take back all of those mean things I have said about you in the past(LOL)
