I have had rollers from 1956 to current date, well a for 2 years I tryed to ruin the breed rasing show rollers. But the question of this post is, what is the orginal orgin, and the breeds used to create the birmingham roller. I have not found anything beyond the Pensom letters, this question has haunted me for years gess I should have asked Bill Pensom in 1956 but was just to thrilled just to have the rollers. I currently am breeding from the 514 line and a pair from the orignal imports also trying some higgins stuff but that a diffrent subject, any help on the history question would be great Thank Bill

Bill,

Welcome to the site.

I will give my opinion from what I have read and heard over the years.

Here goes, I believe the Birmingham Roller was created from the Oriental Roller; the Flying Tippler; English Tumbler; and the Dutch Tumbler.

This just my opinion and like everyone else I do not know exactly how it originated, but from its flying charactoristics; shape and form; feathering; and what I have read this pretty well describes it.

ThaT Kormoner Tumbler is a modern day addition. The crest rollers that some have in thier loft I beleve came from that input.

I don't know how to spell it either.(LOL)

Nick,

I've seen crests on rollers from pictures Chan Grover had from imports inthe 60's.

Hey Pacos Bill,
Welcome to a great site,eh!!Where on the west coast are you?I'm on Gabriola, one of BCs Gulf Islands. No wind up here lately. No preds hassling my birds either which is totally sweet.Got 31 YBs in the air and they haven't met a pred yet(touch wood).Yearlings are flying at a decent height finally after being chased by falcons alot before the WC prelims. It's quieted down now thanks to the Roller Gawds.
Jer,
Be safe out there at night must get a little crazy at times.
