Well i will have to admit its been coming over me for a while now .......... yep..... you fellas guessed it roller fever , as a kid from the age of 7 i was roped into looking after my old dads rollers and other feathered friends whilst he was working away all week , we had the rollers about fifteen yrs from birds direct off maurice hole ...... but then gave them up due to work commitments and my love of hunting dogs takeing over , although i have never been without birds .... having kept quite a bit of poultry , and a few canarys/ finches since moving out of the family home to make my own .........
i live in the north east of england , which is full of mainly raceing pigeon men , infact i have 8 men who race their birds who work with me everyday , yes ......... pigeon talk is their only topic , lol , however ... a good while a go , i had to drop some furniture i had made off for a friend who was visiting a fly in middlesbourough , yep it brought it all back , watching quality kits of john wanless do the business just made me want my own kits again ........... so ........ after extensive remodelling of my garden iam about ready to start on the loft or cree as we call them up here .......so be warned theres questions coming ....lol

all the best

Welcome Lee
Nice to hear your getting back into rollers, You wont catch any harm with old maurice's birds because i hear they are very good although never having the honour to see his birds. John Wanlass is a good friend of mine also John flys some excellent quality birds ive was up that neck of the woods myself last year. Lee if your starting off again you are probably in one of the best areas in England to get established with some great flyers around that area. I regard the North East as flying some of the best birds in the country at this moment in time. You will get all the info you need on Tony's site.

Lee, I was born in North Shields, lived mainly in Newcastle and played in bands doing the Working Mens' clubs for many years, which took me through the whole of the North East. I now live near London because the weather is shite up north. My family still live up there and I visit them when I really have to.

I kept racers back in my youth (early 70s) and the factory where I was an apprentice sheetmetal worker, talked about nowt but Newcastle football or pigeons. Sting was brought up right next to that factory and went to my school in Newcastle.

As Wayne says, I've heard that the North East has really come on in rollers and is giving the infamous Midlands a hard time comp-wise. My birds are mainly from George Mason, with a few from Dave Moseley, and I'm still getting to grips with them.

Welcome aboard.

WELL LADS ,
Thanks for the kind words ,
yes its been a long out - time for me ..... but..... iam only 38 so plenty of time to catch up i think , i cannot belive anyone would think the north - easts weathers bad , after all that grass dont get green without it !!!!
maurice hole ? ....... well belive it or not iam only about 5 miles away from him and so will have to re - introduce myself .........and just recently a guy i know through keeping british finches and mules has started with the rollers he lives about a mile from my home , so theres about half a dozen roller lads within about a 5 mile radius that i know of ,
the birds i had from maurice yrs ago were mainly mealys and very , very deep ........ most rolled about 60 feet though i remember two good hens that would roll about ninety , they did produce quite a few roll downs it seemed every week had one bouncing off the house roof .... lol ....
it was a bit of a shock when i saw john wanlesses kits as they seemed very short to me [ maybe i had my rose tinted glasses on , regarding my old birds ] ...... however when i saw the quality and speed , plus was explained the time factor in having deep rollers getting back to the kit .. i could see the advantages for competition as opposed to us flying for our own pleasure ,
yes i will be taking advantage of the knowledge here , maybe when i come to setting up the loft the questions will start ... lol .... ive been offered a 24 foot by 12 shed to convert thats in fairly good condition , and me being a joiner there should be no problems as far as converting it to a loft / cree ........
so .... wanlesses loft ......... seemed a good design to me , anyone any thoughts ?

all the best
