After about the third week, the cocks do most of the feeding anyways! If he is a mature cock and has raised before, I would say your chances that he steps up and takes care of them are pretty good! I have had birds show up 2 or 3 days later that get out for the first time, don't count her out yet! Keep us informed of what happens! Good luck!

Been there. Most of my birds have been in the breeder loft for quite some time (2yrs). They have access to a ex pen and are "homed in" but they still can`t fly very far.

I have a trap in my breeder box for just those occasions. It is advisable to trap train them during the off season for just these type of situations. Last time one of my hens got out whem the kit was coming down,I didn`t even know she was out. She trapped with the kit and when I took kit bird inventory later I was wondering where the extra bird came from. Grabbed her and looked at the band and scolded her all the way back to the breeder loft.

Bud,

I've had them come back a week later...like it was mentioned above dont give up. Cock should hopefully take up the feeding with the two...you could always split the two up and give them to two other hens with similar aged nestlings. I would make sure they were an experienced pair before putting the abandoned one with them and giving them three to raise. G/L
