The Southeast Region has completed its World Cup Finals. The results are as follows:
Charlie Stack: 8-5-5-8-10-6-14-8-5-7-8-7 6-7-6-7-6-8-5-13-5-5-6-7-6 7-5-5-13-7-5 Raw score-270 Qual 1.4 Depth 1.4 Final Score 529.2
Cliff Ball: 8-13-7-7-6-9-5-6-6-5-5 11-5-11-16-7-15-13-5 5-7-6 Raw Score-288 Qual 1.3 Depth 1.3 Final Score 486.72
I flew a decent kit with great potential. They had a great second quarter, but didn't elevate and shut it off circling to land the last eight minutes in the air, threatening a DQ all that time. It was great to spend time with the judge, Brian McKenzie, an experienced roller man who is committed to quality and performance, and to hear the status of the hobby in South Africa. He says he will take home a whole new respect for the work rate, quality, and speed of rollers in the US.I am pleased to have contributed to that opinion. Great fun, guys! YITS, Cliff

Thanks, guys. Paul, I had to tweak the system a little because I only had a couple weeks after the Regionals. I lost two A-kit birds during that time, to bumping and breaking legs. The first B-kit replacement worked well, kitted well, and broke with the kit, though on the stiff side. The second, a cock, an excellent spinner (Joe Bob's pick for a replacement), kits well with the B-kit, but would not kit with the A-kit! (the SOB! LOL!) He left the kit on the last fly day before the competition. So I was faced with a tough call....go with 19, use one of the '07 birds coming in to good spin, or use a two-year-old reliable B-kit hen who is a good kitter, and fast, but only 10-15 ft. I went with the hen and it panned out....no out birds. I only missed one break, and that was because of deep birds taking their time getting back to the kit.
Those last minute judgement calls the week or two before the competition can make or break a guy. I was lucky. And it is difficult to focus on your birds when you are entertaining, dining, and driving the judge around. I'm not complaining, that's one of the best parts...but it is definitely a factor.
I think the judge is heading your way, Paul. He's a great guy. Good luck, buddy! Blow them away!!

Dave, Same to you, Dave. Good work! Brian McKenzie was very impressed by your birds and by Aris Punla's. He asked what family they were and I could not answer him. What's their background? Cliff

Cliff, My birds consisted mainly of 2 families: Joe Emberton stuff that goes back to Juan N. and a family I call Old Pensom. From what I gathered, the old pensom goes back to the Oullette's 3 sister hens, I may be wrong though. Aris's birds are also Joe Emberton stuff. Good luck to all the finalists that have not flown yet.

I am related to Dang Dave Vang. He used to be my step-brother and now I have moved him up to "brother". When he wins the WC I am thinking about just marrying him. I will then devorse him for half of his birds.

Thanks again, guys, for the accolades. It means a lot to me. Dave, that makes sense on the background of the Old Pensom line....the third California family of quality rollers mentioned by the judge, of the ones he has seen was Don Ouellette's...no surprise, of course. John M....I got your message but with the fly and the judge and all, I haven't had the chance to return your call about the convention. I'll see if I can find the number and call you this weekend. LOL Nick, you don't have to marry me for the birds. If you want some then just let me know, lol.
