I asked this question on our BC Rollers Group page but I'm wondering what opinions I'll get here. After coming in last night from a fly and looking fine then, this morning one of my YB hens(5months old)had the insides of an egg on the floor below her perch and she was onn the perch with the remnants of the egg hanging from her butt, not looking very happy. What do you guys think has happenned to her?Guess she better go into the sick bay awhile.----------

Kel,
Prolapsed uterus. Was she flown in a time period consistent with the problem?
This happens to me when one sneaks out when she is getting ready to lay and I didn`t notice the behavior.
I switched to morning fly as they always lay in the evening around 5-6 for me.

If you got the rest of the egg out and rest her up she`ll be okay. Thats one of the things one has to watch for in the spring.

Do ya think she'll be toast as far as breeding goes?

Kel,
Usually the hen is okay after a few weeks. Ya want to pull her from any breeding rotation she might be in.
There is a possibility of it re-occuring if there was major trauma to the vent and/or uterus. Only way to know is to try.

She could have layed a soft shelled egg. I have an old 97 hen that lays the first egg just fine...and the second in ALWAYS soft shelled...she just started doing it this year...I even gave her calcium and Vitamins to no avail...so it could have been a soft shelled egg.
