Guys
I was wondering can you still get adequate vitamin D to your pigeons from artificial lighting. IE fluorescent lighting(Tubing). Only serious answers please. As this means making drastic measures and alterations to my stock loft.

HI WAYNE ,

IAM A BIG BELIVER IN NATURE ,.............. MOVE AWAY FROM IT AND WE MESS UP BADLY

a few yrs ago we changed the roofs on our dog runs to perspex instead of the dark old tin ones we had , almost overnight the skin / coat seemed to improve on the dogs , kennels seemed drier etc ....... my poultry are leaps and bounds in better condition when in natural light as opposed to electric lights , and so breed earlier in the year
i cannot see your stock loft being any different

all the best

I agree with BMC, if you are gonna go with flourescents! Also, if it gets cold where your at in the winter, go with HO (High Output) fixtures. Doesn't cost that much more and they will give off good light in the cold temps! Big difference in the winter if it gets cold there!

Will have to look at the skylight idea also but i am not confident of getting the seal right and the last thing i need at the moment is a damp loft.

Lee me and Ste are going up Middlesbrough 2 weeks this Sunday watching a fly why don't you come up there and have a day out.
George Mason is judging the fly.
