Well Guys I have had it happen I have a neighbor and a woman about a 1/4 mile away caomplain about my homers. They are mother and daughter and one says that my birds are eating her CAT FOOD and pooping in her yard which maybe true except for the catfood part thats just stupid!! her daughter down the street says that my birds are comming in her husbands loft and eating thier food and these are homming pigeons now. Well the two of them have a family member that is in new york on disability and they want them down here and my house being a rental house they are trying to get me in trouble and get me out they have so far complained to my landlord who told that he had no intention of makeing me get rid of my birds or even talking to me about them!! But I am afraid that it will not stop there.
So what I would like to know is what is should do about this should I get rid of my homers and keep my parlors and BRS or should I keep them and fight back????
Thanks Alot Tripp :(

Tripp, make sure you are manging you birds well. If they aren't in the air they should be in your loft. If your birds are "slumming" it causes problems on several levels. I'd make them prove that my birds were a problem and I fight them tooth and nail. Spud

Well Tripp for 1,Homers don't go to others peoples yards to eat....especially cat food. You've got 1 point on your side there. On the other hand ,it's amusing that the only people who seem to have a problem with your pigeons is this 2, who happen to be a mother and daughter!!I think you have another point on your side there.Good luck,I would tell them to bug off!

I feed my birds purina race mix and they have a clean loft do not have a wood floor and I have catch pans under the loft to catch droppings and My neighbors loft has a mud floor and he feeds his rollers cracked corn ONLY! Never vaccinated and never treated for anything else all my birds have been wormed and vaccinated and are very healthy On TOP of all that he is stealing water to water his garden he has a tap on the fire hydrant and the mother that lives behind me has a barking ass dog that will not shut up so if the complaints persist My complaints will start and I might make a call to the water company about this little water tap he has on the fire hydrant. I love my birds and I have got some real good ones but I do not want to get in to trouble over them. So I am sort of worried!!!

Hey Tripp, here is the hard truth: first thing you need to do is "go to ground". Go on lock-down. Do not let any birds out for a long time. Out of sight, out of mind.
Don't make yourself a target by going tit-for-tat with them. Leave your nieghbor/s alone.
Become a good nieghbor first. Keep loft and area around the loft clean clean clean! Do some simple landscaping and make your premises as attractive as you can.
Your birds should not be allowed out if they are not UP IN THE AIR or coming into your loft. I hope you are managing this part well, because if your birds are landing and roosting and pooping on someone elses property, they ARE a nuisance and you should be held responsible.
After you have put your ducks in a row, go to the complaining persons and explain you will only let your birds out 1 time per day and that they will fly for 30 to 40 minutes and after that they will be trained to trap in in less than 2 minutes.
Tell them that if any of your birds go into his loft and eat his pigeon food or eat the cat food, he has your permission to destroy them.
IF you get the city involved, you lose! ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

Tripp, You might check your ordinances and find if there are any restricitions. Sounds like your landlod is on your side. Thats good stuff. I`d just ignore them and keep it tight like Tony said.If you`re on lock down and the thievery persists you know it aint your birds.
BTW why is the cat food outside? Does their cat ever visit your loft? Why doesn`t the husband secure his loft from predators? Seem to me if the loft/trap is open all of the time he is waiting for them to be eaten. Kinda makes ya go hmmmm. Sounds like a bunch of commies to me. Is he releasing the same time as you to draw your birds? Get some thief pouters and get all of his birds. lmao G/L ---------- V99 Flippin`The Bird!

Does anyone know if it is true that you can join one of the racers clubs and get there bands on your birds! Then they have lawyers that will help you fight these problems due to complaints and ordinances. Due to the fact that homers were/are protected due to the fact they were used in war time! You can even band your rollers with their bands and they will still help you out!I believe it was the AU, ARU, or ARA or something like that was the club name! This is just a rumor that I've heard twice lately and I don't really know what I'm talking about, as usual, but I need to find info out about this also!

That would be AU (American Racing Pigeon Union). That homer are protected is a urban myth. That the AU has lawyers for their members is correct. Sometimes they win sometimes they loose. They reciently came up with a standard that has to be met before they will plead you case. Each club has to policy that polity and each loft meet the requirements. It seems to me the roller guys and the homers guys should join forces when in comes to the issues of zoning. Spud

Strenght in numbers! That would make to much sense! LOL Thanks for your reply, figured it was to good to be true!
Our pet store owner here, said about 25 yrs ago, his father had rollers and homers and when he got a complaint, he called the AU and they sent him a notice that he posted on his fence about homers being protected due to use in the war, and they left him alone! Reckon it was just luck! When I heard that, I thought maybe there might be something to it!
Thanks anyways, Val

Thanks for all the good advice I guess I will not raise any more homers. because all of these are 07 young birds that I have been let fly to get ready to road train. I have gone into lock down have not flown anything the last two days and plan on road training and cut their food in half they should trap better as I live in a wooded area and I do not want them hanging out in the trees. I guess I will stick to my rollers and parlors and keep what homers I have until I have no more

He does not train his birds to trap he has an open loft and his rollers only flip once in awhile but his loft is really no loft it is more like a pen with a shelf that has a lip in on it with dividers for nests not very good or healthy and I have given both neghibors permission to destroy any of my birds that show up on there porch or loft and let me know and I will let them know if it is mine I also rescued one of my neighbors young birds out of the creek that runs behind the house and nursed it back to health and then gave to him like a good friend , neighbor , pigeon man. What ever but I guess people do look at things like that anymore only out for th seleves I do not know I will not be so quick to invite any of them to come see my birds anymore Well enough gripping from me I guess I am just going to do the right thing and not worry about people like them !!
