This site is new to me so when I have time I am reading the older threads and I came upon this one about Young Bird Sickness.
When I did a new topic What Meds? this is exactly what I was talking about. I had this problem down to a T with young birds going lite and going away in a very short time. It never seem to bother the breeders just the youngsters.
If I read the article correctly, the more I cleaned, the worst I was making it. Also I should be giving good bateria so there immune system stays strong.
What do ya'll do to prevent this from happening in the first place?
Any and all help will be appreciated... This was one of my fears about getting birds again as I am worried about this happening again.

Sat(Richard), The best prevention is the basics.Dry loft, clean feed, good ventilation.I beleive that "young bird sickness" is often used as a catch all for an underlying problem. If you start with good sound stock from a reliable breeder and you do your part I think you'll be fine. ---------- Ron Borderline lofts

Ron, What do you think of the use of Pro-Vital like on a once a week basis to keep them up and maybe supply them with what was missing? The last time I had the birds I cleaned my loft every single week, is that too often where the birds are not getting what they need due to my cleaning? Thanks in advance, Richard

Look like there is another Richard out there. Guess will have to use richard m. For young birds going light been using Vita King's Miracle life for years and haven't lost one since. I usually give it to the young when in stress period {WEANING THEM} I give it in the water about 2 or 3 weeks till they get on their own. I am really serious about this. See if Tony handles if not Tony get some. richard M.

Bman I don't think the Amoxicylin was necessary. Just my thoughts. I try to give as little medication as possible. Richard M.

Richard(SAT roller) I clean my lofts one a week and have no problems. You will find a lot of differing opinions on this.I give my birds Pro-Bios once a week.I have not tried the other products.
Ricard m. How are you doing? Those squeeks are trap trained and starting to kit.Hope to get some more wing time on them before it gets to late. ---------- Ron Borderline lofts

Richard, SAT Roller = San Antonio, Texas Hopefully soon to have rollers again. I could actually house some birds now, I would have to whip up some perches real quick, finished the loft, all screened in and the kit boxes are good to except for the perches as well. Richard

Bman Good to hear. Get them in the air and as much wing time as can before have to shut them down. Coop took an almond out of that kit here last night. Starting to put up the best ones. Doing fine but hate to loose birds to hawks. Hurts. Richard M
