The best about your birds? While in the midst of a rapidly deteriorating topic on another list, this question was broached. Doesn`t any one just enjoy thier birds anymore? Seems that sometimes we can`t see the forest for the trees.
The three things I enjoy the most about having birds are, Waiting for the dots to hatch, and the actual hatching. Training the squeaks and watching them take thier first real flight. Seeing the results of peaking my birds in a superb performance for no one but me. I`ll be out in the backyard doing the Snoopy dance with a little end zone flavor thrown in for good measure, staring straight up in the sky. My neighbors think I am a little off anyway `cuz I raise pigeons. The challenges I enjoy are aligning the fosters and breeders. Analyzing kits I raise and making breeder decisions for the next season.

I posed that question sort of tongue in cheek. Already knew that many of us truly enjoy our hobby but felt trapped in a quagmire with so much endless bickering going on. I imagine an alien from space, looking down, would swear we hate one another and what we are doing. Al

When the cock birds think they are "pavorati" and sit in the nest bowl Wooooooooooing for all there worth. Can't hardly wait for the eggs to hatch. That first time they figure it out and start REALLY kitting. There's more but don't want everyone to know what a "softie" I really am. ---------- Ron Borderline lofts

Kenny, I'm pretty much a backyard flyer ,for now.So I actually fly my birds the way I like to fly them.I have alwaYS ENJOYED a youngsters little twizzles on the kit box roof[the itch to take flight],then they look at you like what just happened.I also enjoy the personable pigeons that fly on your head or shoulders or try to untie your shoe laces.Yes,I do get those funny stares too from the neighbors, but they go inside their homes with their coldpack of beer and flick on the tube....Aloha,Todd

I like it when the light goes on in thier little heads about kitting; I like it when they recognize me or my voice; I like it when they start doing things as a family or team.
I remember them flying and seeing another nearby kit flying in California, both kits flew purposely close to ane another to look each other over, but they stayed in their family groups and seperated. I liked this about them....they stayed together enjoying the family bond.
I like the sweet smell of them. I like thier expression when they are trying to figure me out or figure out what I am doing at the time. I like to watch thier reaction to any change I make especially to thier drinking water - they will take a quick taste and then have that inquisitive look on thier expression like "what the hell is that?". I like the agreesive reaction the new born will have for me - wanting to take me on. I like how they will instinctively look skyward even as youngsters being outside for the first time - looking for preditors. I like it when they are young and give you those little jerky attempts for flight. I like the feel of them in my hand. I like the texture of feathers. I like it when they slap you protecting themselves or their eggs and babys. I like the efficiency and accuratcy they have with thier beaks. I like the idea that they can taste and have favorite foods or they prefer winter wheat to regular wheat. I like the idea that they can turn off the roll when being chased by a BOP or they as a group will take evasive action to keep a BOP from the attack. I like the fact they can fly. I like old birds and old dogs. I like it when they will take grain from my hand. I like that they calm my soul....they are the rose that I smell, the coffee that kick starts me. I like that.

Yeah Wafer, It is still a nice topic, and we get to just throw what we feel out there. There is no right and no wrong in this one. Just admiration for the bird. Thanks bro. ---------- V99 Flippin`The Bird!

1) Sitting in my reclining chair in the morning that spins in a circle, drinking a cup of strong coffee while watching the birds fly and thanking GOD for all he has done for me and my Family. 2) The great Friends I have met through this hobby. 3) The thrill and anxiety of Competition. Even when my team sucks, I won't be able to sleep the night before fly day. 4) Breeding that champion. The one thats so good your afraid to fly it anymore.

The best thing I like about my birds is when the A team throttles into one of those instant, wall slamming entire dumps with the birds spinning like hard balls down towards me. That puts wood in my britches. Truthfully, there is no specific best time, all of the time with the birds is the best times.

I like my birds just to get away from the wife and kids for a couple of hours each day lol. On a serious note i like watching the Youngsters develope from a quick flip over to watch them try to put their brakes on when the roll becomes more deeper. To watch a kit roll knowing full well my exercise of producing quality rollers is surely working. Trying to breed better numbers each year is what i strive for better than the last year knowing i know i am doing summat right and on the right track. Generally i love everything involved with the BR except the cleaning out of things lol ---------- Regards W@yne UK

Their my first thought in the morning, my last thought at night! My thoughts are always the same, when I'm not with them, its how to improve what I've got, and when I'm with them I'm usually thinking, damn it, you just shit on me!! All I know is I'm complete when I'm with them!
Thats wierd, I use to think the exact things when I was raising my kids!LMAO
All I know is nothing else interest me at this time in my life!
Several of you guys had great post, but Nick, they ought to put your words in one of those NBRC issues that we don't get anymore!LOL They were good words

Sometimes I even like the bird that lands early and the flies over towards me and then back to the loft. If I dont go over to it soon enough it does it again like its trying to tell me its hungry and its time to feed. I`ve even had them land on me and stay there till I get to the kitbox. They are like raising kids again. Some learn real well how to get a reaction from DADDY.

I love the little babys, when they learn to trap fast, and when they start to tail ride I don't know why but I think that is cool.

I love everything about them, But if I had to pick the best thing, it would be be setting in my spinning chair in the early morning having a coffee, and watching a young kit start really comming into the roll, And thanking God for my wonderful family, friends and life! ---------- Tapp

What I Like best about my pigeons is the way they transport me to their world and everything else is forgotten if only for the time i spend w/them.Best medicine on earth!
