Here is the "almost" completed kit box. The wire door on the left is where the sqeeks are. I am going to build an exact door for the right side. I have the interior of the left side painted, but not the right..That is on the chore list. Looks so much different than the unpainted side.

Hi Rudy, Same bloodline from the same guy. That bird in the last pic is last years bird. He is a smoker. Plan on using him next breeding season, after flying him 2 years.
Thanks buddy. How are the new birds doing?

Great looking setup Jerry, I got a question though . if You dont mind. I have also painted the inside of my kitboxs but I have a couple of them that are not painted and it seems to me that the unpainted wood is easier to keep clean. Its like the paint allows the poop to glue itself in place, but the wood doesn`t .???
If you dont get time to paint the other side real soon let me know what you think about cleaning the painted versus the unpainted. I`m leaning towards not painting any more, but thats just me. Maybe just painting the walls and leaving the perchs raw wood???? The paint looks real good but, HMMM...

LOL Butch, I will test this for a few days and let ya know. As far as looks goes, the painted side, when clean, is nice looking. I have 6 coats of paint on the interior and exterior. I am gonna move the birds from the unpainted side to the painted side and paint it so it matches, but that will be in a few days.. The other 2 kitboxes are unpainted on the inside, so I can experiment with them versus the painted.
Thanks guys, one of the remaining things to do to it is add water compartments on the exterior under the drops.

Holy smokes, six coats!!!Nothin' will permeate that. With bare wood over time you will find moisture causes mildew to grow and gets into the wood and can only be killed with bleach and TSP.If mildew grows on the surface of the paint it washes off easier.I like latex solid colour stain 2 coats is enough.Deep red.---------- Kelly

I agree guys. the paint does have advantages and it certainly looks good. I was just curious about scraping and what the rest of you feel about it. To me it just seems easier to clean the unpainted wood.
With the painted stuff it does seem easier to just spray it off with the water hose. When I turn the birds out I usually grab the hose and spray it down while they are in the air. Takes little scraping and there is no dust.

Kel, did you stain the interior as well? If so, did ya spray it on? That would go alot faster and easier.
When I paint the interior of the other side, I am gonna spray it on..It took to damn long to brush those 6 coats...LOL
Butch, The water hose idea is a good one. On my first double kitbox, I sprayed Thompson Water Seal on the complete interior and exterior, let it soak in for a few weeks, then resprayed the interior, and painted the exterior..I have had no trouble the past year on the inside with the sealer..Just an idea for ya..And it's water proof..LOL ----------

Stain.......paint chips and cracks
I don't like to use water in any of my cleaning. Water can start a lot of bad things growing. Scrape and scrape often.
Just my humble opinion and it don't mean a pissing thing(LOL)

Jerry, Yeah the inside is solid colour latex stain.2 coats is sufficient.Roll everthing out first then cut in wherever the roller wouldn't reach.I painted the new kitboxes before putting in the perches. I do use water to pressure wash the box every 6 months or so.Scrub with bleach which kills mildew then rinse.Do it on a day when the humidity is low so it dries quick. ---------- Kelly

Rudy, I have looked all over for those pics, and haven't found them. Our club fly starts at his house this saturday at 8:30am. I will take new ones and send them to ya.
Thanks Kel. With the many coats of paint I have inside, I think I will see what happens with the pressure washer when it gets to dirty..Thanks for the tip.
