A few squeaks.
See the trap does work
Kate the Great. Budding carpenter and pigeon girl.
I decided I was going to split the door about ten minutes after I pronounced it finished. Thats next on the henny do list.
It`ll look like this one when I finish. This was an edition of While You Were Out;Pigeon Style. Thats what Kate said anyway. We re did the doors to an english style. The perches probably aren`t new but I modified them to fit my purposes. This is a real easy clean and the birds just run down the perch and launch off the end. Takes the squeaks about 5 seconds to all get out and they are squeaks. 20-23 birds easy.
Gonna get the underpinning and dowel doors built this week. Then they will all match and I can throw some plants around and my wife will get off my .... oh Hi Honey. lol

I like your trap. do you feed your birds after they are all in. Or do you leave a tray in the kit box for them. the reasion im askeing is if you leave food in there for when they go back in the kit box The 1 st few are going to get a little more then there share and that could become a problem. still a great idea.

Al, I believe Kenny is like myself, in that we feed our squeeks plenty until they are on the wing good. No reason to keep food away from a baby.

I understand that i do the same with my young birds. Just wondering how the trap will work with 2o birds trying to get in at one time, When he starts flying them..I just think that with that trap some birds are going to get to much feed and other not enought. Unless he feeds them after they all trap.

Al, When they are squeaks they get pretty much all they can eat in the evening. I pull the tray when I batten down for the evening. As they move to the next phase I will start feeding them after they trap. I just throw a dab of WBS in the feeder to get them in. Trap is working fine Wayne. It also doubles as ventilation.A hungry pigeon is a smart pigeon. I will probably go with the English style open door later on. The frame of the dowel door is 2x2 so the birds like to land on that and pick a spot to light in the box.
Squeak feed is 1/2 milo,1/2 wheat,1/3 14% pellet,1/3 safflower,1/3 WBS. I figure it is right at 12-13 percent.

Hey Kenny I'm just wondering? Are the birds going to start fighting over the perch? I had someting like that once and the bigger, badder ones aways runs all the other ones off. It didn't work for me, how are yours doing? Tou

Tou, Cut the feed when the cocks get too cocky. The walks are 1 5/8 wide. Not much room for fighting. Once they all get a little age on em I will teach them who is the boss.
I think this setup will allow for tighter kitting and kit response because of the close proximity they have to live in. I betcha they roost in a similar order to where they fly in the kit. I am gonna make this work even if I have to roll a few heads.
On a similar subject the cocky rowdy birds are usually a bad influence on a kit anyway. This will just add another layer to the list of tools for tuning my program. You want team players both in and out of the box.

Kenny, I've had some aggressive cocks in my white homer breeder loft. One guy(Grumpy) was fighting so much the 2 cocks would end up bleeding from their wattle. The way to stop it is to hobble them with a piece of string about 1/8" thick.A clove hitch and two half hitches on each leg holding the legs fairly close together. They tend to stumble and fall on their face so this is not conducive to beating the shit outta somebody.2 or 3 days of this and they turn into mr nice guy. ---------- Kelly

Never be underestimate the power of hunger mixed with curiosity. Pigeons are weird anyway. I have a tin roof on my patio. There are a few pebbles on it I have thrown at the squeaks. They play with the pebbles. I hear them throwing them around, then their little feet scrabbling on the roof en masse to where it lands and then the process repeats itself. They peck at it a few times and then one will pick it up and get a good fling on it and here they go again.
