Paul,I think you mentioned you had the same traps I use. Jimbo traps from Jedds, have you had any problems with them? Since the bobs are independant of each other and thin aluminum, my YBs have learned to push their way back through them! Some of them shoot back out when they see me coming to close it! They prefer freedom over their hunger! I love the looks and the landing board, but I'm not sure I can hang with the style of bobs!

I have had that trouble with all my different traps over the years...if I screw up and leave the trap open. They did it a couple of times...but as you know they are creatures of habit...once I started closing the trap as soon as they trapped in......I left the trap open the other day and none of them came out....I broke there habit.
They settle down quite a bit when they get older...I can leave my old bird trap open and they will never try and get out....Just break the habit and close the trap as soon as the all trap in.

I have it with my youngest birds, they aren't quite as quick to trap as my older kit! I thought about switching it out with the older birds, they seem to be content in their box! Glad you said that, just gave me the confidence that it will work better! I'm trying to deal with it cause they look so damn good! LOL
Jerry, if I can't lick my problem, I will probably try drops next! Got a couple of weeks left on my second loft and then, I will have to completly rebuild my doors to have drops! Trying to get things caught up before I start coaching LL football and then its straight into wrestling season! Last year to coach football, hope to go out on top! Don't know if I will have time to retrain to the drop traps and the sharks "are" coming!

To solve the problem with the Bob traps so the birds cannot push their way back, I cut two 1/4 inch peices of plastic tubing line that is used to connect the water to a bathroom faucet, and insert them from both ends in the aluminum rod that is holding the bobs. If it is too tight just slit it along one side. It will fit tight and keep the bobs pushed close so the birds will not push themselves out. Always, you can adjust them to your liking at any time.

It will get better....and if you birds don't trap fast enough...cut the feed a little more.....cut it just enough so that they trap fast...young birds or not....My young birds get 2 cups for 20 birds and they trap just fine...the just shut the door AS SOON as they get in....you will break the habit and then it is smooooooth sailing.
I don't have a problem anymore.

I agree with Jerry, drop traps are the way to go. I gave up on bob traps several years ago with my homers, and now that is the only type I use. Works great for Rollers, I've never had one come back out yet. Spud
