Tony, We have all been kicking around new officers for the NBRC.. How about a new national roller club? Or the revival of some of the GREAT old roller clubs. I remember when the old PRA started, the Ouelletts had some great idea's. The IRA was the real flying club for many years. I think there are a lot of roller men out there, looking for an option. We used to have 3 flying roller clubs at one time. Maybe providing a choice would be worth thinking about once again? I would love to see a fly club started that had quality rules as its base.Like the old 11 bird standard but for 20 bird kits. 20 birds 20 minutes and all birds have to roll with quality to score. Not action but quality roll. Just thinking out loud, but this maybe an option. Any thoughts? KGB

I'm all for it. A big reason why I got hooked into rollers was because of the PRA. Talk about competition, and a group of hard core roller men! Those days were great! I would be more than happy to help if that is a viable route.

Remember these guys?

I would not recommend that we splinter away from the NBRC. I believe it would weaken our resolve to promote the Birmingham Roller. I would recommend that we become more international than it is currently. Maybe unify with the NBRA in the UK and other clubs and organizations from the countries that are currently competing in the World Cup. ---------- Nick

im all for a new club it may make a positive effect on all this and it may be good and then we can all focus on our birds and other things like how to positively promote rollers as a sport not as a hamper on the hawk or any other predatory bird thats just a thought ---------- The man in black city-side-lofts.piczo.com Ben the bird man of Idaho

I'm with Nick! Does everyone truly believe that none of these other clubs ever mentioned the terrible BOP phrase? Do you really think that no one in a new club will ever say such a nasty thing again? I am sure that no one among us ever said such rotten things. When we watched our beloved pets being torn apart we probably all said, "My goodness! I wish that beautiful BOP would not do such an awful thing". While I don't believe in killing God's creatures, I can't honestly say that the thought never crossed my mind. Al

There is a reason why all of those so called "fun clubs" folded. How fun can that be to be a part of a club that didn't make it? How good a club could they have been? THEY WEREN"T GOOD ENOUGH TO MAKE IT ---------- Nick

Nick.
Perhaps you can explain what happened to the PRA, and other "fun clubs." Since you know so much about them. Enlighten us. I've always liked your commentary, even found it amusing at times, but your random RAH RAHing for the NBRC is really striking a strange cord with me. What's wrong with thinking outside of the box? I've been an NBRC member for a while. It's not the best thing in the world. It's just the only thing we have going. What is it? Nostalgia? I like Pensom, Smith, Hilton, Plona, and others as much as the next guy, but what does it all matter really? I would say your most positive experiences in the hobby are tied to the NBRC, so maybe that's why you are so set in your ways. I'd rather belong to a kick ass club where everyone has fun, that goes broke in three years than one that blatantly excludes it's members wishes. LOL I have not once attacked any organization, but I am ready to defend the ones I have participated in that have given me a great deal of personal gratification, and had HUGE contributions to the hobby. I haven't given any personal contribution to the NBRC other than my membership dues. Does that make me less of a member than an RD, or a treasurer, or the VP or whatever? Believe me, if I had the time and the personal resources, I would be doing more. Oh well, guess I'll just have to enjoy the birds...LOL

wwwwaaayyy,to much time on your hands guys,lol!!!..I agree some changes need to be made. You can't summon the past into exsistance.Remember a vast majority of the NBRC are backyard enthusiests and there membership helps the hard core competitors with a judge and the support staff behind them.Nothing wrong with a hardcore competition flying club.Sounds like it will have to have some harcore rules, which means more rules to remember and follow ,which is confusing for the guy in the middle. Are you guys thinking about the club as a whole or the guys who only breath to compete win or lose.A smaller member base means higher club dues on top of what they pay for their regional club ,if they belong to one.Is this a nostalga thread??..I feel the NBRC is a fabulous club, those who think otherwise must have some underlying issues on their agenda. Is it enough to send our current club down the crapper??!!!...I think I have raised some valid points,Tony,I hope this isn't to harsh for the forum....Aloha,Todd

Hey gang; Not being facetious here but why don't the ones who are unhappy with the NBRC just abdicate and form their own little group? I don't think there will be a mass exodus of the 2000 or so members. Efforts to sabotage the club will not bring us down. Long live the two Bobs!...Al

Milo,
They had no substanouis; no direction; no cohesiveness; lacked support of membership; lacked the resourses required to have a solid based organization. They did not have a centralized charter; did not have a thoughout plan of involvement into the hobby; did not have an all encompassing constitution; had limited access; did not have a specific direction; did not provide any resourses or not enough of them; they were a "trick of the day" organization; they were into "what is cool now" type of mentality.
The structure of these organizations were built like a house of cards; plain and simple. They were a play toy for those who could gain access to them which was a limited number.
That is my short take on them and it is only what I saw, so it was and is just my opinion. ---------- Nick
