Any update on this feed yet? I think Brian and Scott were trying it, don't know who else! I've been at it for over a week now! I think the youngest birds are responding well. They seemed to have more pep and flying longer. I think that I can see a difference in their weight too! They were looking kind a puny!

The older kit is flying about the same time, but their wanting to play around and not trap as fast when they come down! They don't like the feed yet! They don't get as excited when they see me pour it in their feeder! I cut them from a cup and a half to a cup today. See if I can't change their attitudes!

Val, I talked to Brian 2 weeks ago about the Nutrina feed. Iam waiting for my feed mill to get some in for me. Its on back order. Iam very anxious to start my birds on it. I've tried all kinds of pellets. Didn't like the results of any of them. Hopefully with Nutrina their will be a BIG difference. I'll keep everyone posted on my progress.

I got some Nutrena feed last week. They didnt have the chicken layer in pellets only crumbs. But they could get it if I got 2tons.So I bought 1bag of duck grower and 1bag of gamebird grower pellets.I noticed what looked like mold or fine cobwebs in the gamebird pellets Then I noticed alot of little tiny bugs.Has any body else had any problems with Nutrena or did I start out on the wrong foot.

Hey Val.
Sorry I haven't posted anything sooner but man the work schedule is picking up. And the temperature is to!!!!!

I have been using Nutrena pellets {Nature Wise} for the past 7 to 8 months. I use if for the breeders and for the flying birds. The flyers have been given all they want most of the time. I did cut it a couple of times and the response to the amount of feed is something to see.

I have been keeping a log on myspace blog. so others can see what I have been doing and what the birds were doing. But for the past week I have been working 6:30am to 9:00pm at night. I'm going to have Jess {wife} start flying them if I don't get the chance here soon.

My blog: http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=143044518&blogID=287734061

I think I would like the feed you found. It don't have as much protein which might be the key. But I will say I like the 18% I don't know if it's too much or not. But I haven't notice any birds falling off in body because of to much protein.

I know it's easy for me to find the nutrena around here close to the house. I haven't looked for Atwoods at any of the feed dealers around. If I can't get the nutrena or you find out that the atwoods is better I might have to look for it close by. The Nutrena runs 8.00 a 50 lbs. And the pellets breaks up easy. How does the atwoods break-up in your hand? I know the babies comes out big and healthy a little faster than what the normal grain birds did. And I'm getting more egg production which in-turns means more babies in shorter time. And the waste is very little because the birds dont pick through it.

Best of luck with the feed and keep us all posted.
Thanks Brian

fly-boy,

When you buy feed either have the dealer get the feed you want and try it and then make sure he keeps it on hand. If a feed dealer had it on the shelf for a good while you probably did get a bad bag. My feed dealer keeps 10 bags on hand all the time and I usually get 6 to 7 bags a week. So that way the feed is always fresh and never in the store long.

I never got or opened a bad bag of nutrena since I statred feeding it that was bad. It has very little dust at the bottom of the bag, for a easy crumble pellets.

You might want to ask the feed dealer how long that sack of feed has been on the shelf. And hope he is honest with you!!

For what its worth

Thanks for the response, Brian! I have used the Atwoods feed for about a year now,it was the 15% egg ration crumbles! I have just fed it in a seperate feeder as an extra! The hens really go at it! I started on the nutrina about two weeks ago and at first they didn't like it! Now they tolerate it, but they will go for the egg layer if they have the choice! I will keep the youngest on it till I go thru the 100 lbs! Then I havent decided yet on which way to go! My "pigeon ranch" seemed to be a good laugh for the cattle ranchers down there! Won't tolerate it! Had to leave before my mouth got the best of me! I will buy some atwoods feed and try to compare by feeding one kit one and the other kit the other! I have definatly seen weight gain with the nutrina!Hopefully I will see it with the atwoods! I pay about $20/100 either way!I will let you know how hard the pellets are next week!

Hey Val, Can you give me some more info on that feed? Is Atwood the brand name? And exactly what is the name of the feed that you use? Iam trying to look up some info about it on the computer but, can't seem to get anywhere. I live in Ohio and would be interested in it myself. Any help would be appreaciated

Hey Paul, Ranch Pro is the brand name. All I kept is the tag from the last bag! I will be getting the pellets next weekend and try them!
