joe,
The trouble with that is the fosters will be waiting for the eggs to hatch 18 days after they laid their first egg.If the eggs you put under the fosters from your pumper pair aren't going to hatch till 28 days after the foster pair laid their first egg, that is a little to long. You might get them to sit 21 or maybe even 23 days but beyong that you're pushing it.They will think the eggs are infertile and get off and lay another round. You have to get them more in sinque. The way to do that is by pulling the fosters eggs(you need more than one pair)when the pumpers lay their eggs. That way both pairs will be laying about the same time 10 to 14 days later.Good luck.

In the perfect world .....Donny's right! 3 days max. But............... I have an 8 year old pair,, with the hen being barren, that will hatch out any eggs-no matter the age!
Really depends on the birds. Course thier worth there weight in gold! I've had em' hatch out with a max of seven days difference with some of my pumpers-depends on the birds! Watch your breeders closely! Otis

Otis,
I too have a hen as you described. I placed a set under her a few months back that were on the 7 day mark, and both hatched normal..She takes care of those eggs no matter what.

Hey Guys,

I have a question. Everyone talks about having your fosters in sync. What would happen if you put eggs under a foster pair that just started setting, that had already been set for the first week? Would the foster pair produce pigeon milk for the young that hatched a week ahead of time?? Just something I've been wondering about...

I have done it many times when the donor pairs lay ahead of the fosters with no problems.I have never gone more than seven days.

I got a question too..sry but yeah ...is it still okay if my pair that i wanted to foster the eggs too layed their eggs like three days ahead before the foster parents lay their whole set of eggs...for ex. the two eggs were layed for three days already and then switch to the foster parents to take care after they got their two eggs?

3 days before the fosters lay is good.I can see the fosters raising the young 10 days early but they usually won't sit on the eggs if they are 10 days late.

You ought to be in good shape, Rockx! If the fosters aren't to wild, I would ck the eggs 4-5 days after the swith. Use a small flashlight in the dark and you should be able to see in the egg! You should be able to see blood viens by then! Take care to not let the hen damage the egg if she slaps or pecks at your hand! I check mine often, my hens don't really mind anymore! I don't like my hens to waiste 18-20 days for nothing!

Eggs when laid if kept in same temprature and turned once per day, have been known to keep good for up to a month, so this time table will suit any fostering, there is one way of proving this, try doing it,same temprature night and day, with eggs being removed as soon as its laid.

I hear that 3 to 4 day difference is the max. If u put it after that it will probably leave the eggs. that just wasted ur hen out to lay and have to lay again.
