CSL,

You have my interest peaked on this one! Why would someone do that?? My thinking is it can't be good an honest. Maybe try calling the breeder and asking him why he does that?? Even I would like to know.

Some breeders take their cull's to the feed store and trayed for food or what ever, usualy the birds are not worth anything but to train a hunting dog.
why they cut the band?, becouse people buy them and call the owner and ask what its out of and for a pedegree.
Thaks my opinion i dont take them to the feed store ,i just kill them. but thats why people cut the bands off.Hector C

"My friend bought a very spendy homer"

Maybe so they can't turn around and sell it or its offspring and say their worth big money! They may not manage the family well and discredit the original breeder! Sounds like the breeder has been burnt before! Just a thought!

Ben,
It may be a dipstick bird and the fancier it came from doesn't want his name associated with it.

Ive heard of people cutting there bands off their birds before they sell them to markets ect because in the future they don't want people ringing up saying we have found a bird of yours that has been found miles away that the new guy has lost only for you to go and collect. The guy who sells the birds wants no come backs so he cuts the bands.

All valid points. What is odd to me is that he sold the bird, and then cut the band. So in my opinion, he may have sold him a cull. If someone buys a bird at top dollar, he should be able to sell the offspring and reap the benefits of it's breeding lines. Isn't that what you are paying for?

I would never trust having bands removed from birds; it just throws up too many flags. It should be more perminent than a tattoo as far as I am concern....it may have something to do with integrity, don't ya think?

well my friend raised a bunch of really good homers out of this bird and the bird breeds really nice young so i don't think it has any thing to do with the bird being a cull it may be because the guy raced it and it lost horribly and did not want the new owner tracing it back to his loft i don't know but it sounds really weird to me some guys cut the bands off because the bird did not sell for that much but this bird sold for alot so i really don't know

Well if I bought a banded bird from someone and then they cut the band off I would demand my money back. Now if the band was cut before I bought it that is a different story. If your friend seen him cut the band off after the sale he should have said something right there. The only one who can answer why is the one that does it.
I am like Hector when I cut the band off a bird it has expired.David

When my culls leave the loft every band is cut off. I never leave a band on. I had a guy try to burn me by using my name saying the culls were top birds from my loft.
as for paying big money then cutting the band I would have handed him back the bird. If he isn't willing to stand behind it then it isn't worth crap.
