hey yall i dont know if this will sound rite but did anybody ever think about having crows or ravens as rollers guardians, well today i was flying my kit and a hawk appear and was chasing my kit, all of my birds scatter in the air, hawk still hot chasing and breaking the birds up, from no where came 3 blak raven, all of them start attaking the hawk and chase him around, the hawk didnt get any of my birds thanks to the 3 blak buddies, but it was long til my birds return
well this is kind of weird, but this thing just pop in my mind after seeing such topics on preventing hawk and falcons attak and experiencing it myself today with my kit
well tell me wat u think, even my parent thinks im crazy on having the idea of raising some raven to protect my birds lol

I know the crows have been talked about before! I've seen them in action! Had a pr nest in the trees in the alley behind my house every spring but this one! Don't know what happened to them this year! I think the 38" of rain this year had something to do with it! Wished they would come back, it's dryer than a "popcorn fart" now!
You raise some and I will buy a couple! ---------- Val

You would have to consciencely start a program to cultivate. You would have to study what kind of habitat and environment that would draw them to your locale and work at maintaining it. You can't just wish them to stick around. ---------- Nick

Your wrong, Nick! I do wish my crows would stick around! LOL No,I know their a migratory bird and hoping they would return year after year to the nesting area is just a wish!
When I was a kid, it wasn't unheard of people raising crows as pets. Whether they stuck around after the migration urge hit, I don't know! But I have heard they are a cool pet while they last!
As far as "homer ravens" go, I've never even seen a raven that I know of, but when somebody comes up with an idea, just trying to help, we shouldn't slam the idea down!Doesn't make people feel welcome to share ideas if someone makes jokes of them! Not much of a "brotherhood"! JMO

Alright Guys, What in the heck is going on with this?!! Evidently it is okay for the gov`t to kill birds haphazardly. I wonder how many BOP`s were killed as a result of this outlandish poisoning. Who cares? We do,cuz they`ll blame the roller guys for the reduction in numbers. Should we sic PETA on them? I still wonder who decided there were too many ravens at the dump. Were there any kills like this during the time the numbers were crunched for OHR? Weird ain`t it?

See if you can find the "bird diseases" references again. Sounds to me like it wasn`t thought out very well.

My next door neighbor had 3 tall eucalyptus trees growing in his backyard that had a couple of crow nests in them. The crows would always harass the falcon and chase it away, giving my kit time to land and into the box. Unfortunately, a sound wall was built behind my house, I live behind a freeway, so no more crows for a while. Sometimes the crows come around and perch on the telephone poles, when they spot a falcon, they immediately go after them. Man, I love these crows.
