Jerry it was swell visiting with you at our last SMRA fly. Im teaching the members how to judge but you seldom come to the flys. I helped teach several master flyers how to judge and they are well qualified. They were taught how to pick out breeding stock in the hand and also in the air. I learned first hand from the great master breeder William Pensom. I realize the biggest majority of compeition Birmingham roller breeders in the world havent had the opportunity to breed from the very best imports. Im referring to the old imported stock and newer imported stock. I started teaching in California and im still helping roller breeders in Missouri But some are stuborn and dont want to learn more about the fasinating art of breeding champion Birmingham roller stock. The biggest majority of roller fanciers in the world want to win flys before they become great breeders. Tony is interested in holding a roller seminar at his house this year. Are you interested in coming along with anyother roller fanciers living in Missouri and nearby states. I have a new web-site that will feature all my breeding stock to help beginners.intermediate and advanced breeders including master breeders in the sport.Jerry you have a great future ahead in the fancy and it is a pleasure seeing your new kit box and young flying birds. The very best to everyone that is promoting the roller fancy honestly. In the roller sport. Ray

Tony, I hope you post the date and time of this event! I will be busy helping coach football and wrestling for the rest of the year, but nothing short of that will stop me! I hope this makes since, but I am committed to the children first, rollers second!Hopefully this will be my last year coaching!

I have a huge urge to start meeting some of you guys in person! Hope that I can fit it in my schedule!

Ray,
My new schedule has me working all weekends. I try to get to the club flys as often as possible, and do visit our club members without us having a fly. I am on days for 2 more weeks, then go to nights when I will start my shift at 5:00pm...If this possible fly at Tonys is in the mornings, I will be able to make it, but if it is in the afternoon/evening, count me out. Next week on my days off (tue.,wed., thursday) I will be going to Kentucky to pick up a new police dog, so wont be available on those days..When you get closer to an actual date, email me and I will see how my schedule is.

Jerry and all roller fanciers that want to meet at Tonys house this year will be informed on all roller talk. your working schedule will be observed very closely in regard to the date we will meet. The stock you showed to us are mainly light colored birds except for the red check. They look like local or stock that goes back to Richard Jaconett. I can tell the viewers many interesting things about that family because they were observed in California before moving to Missouri Then i have many years breeding the best stock from old master breeders from the early nineteen fortees to two thousand eight. Some of the old roller fanciers had good stock like some today but the breed is more popular today and more good stock is being bred. Some roller people say if they like there stock or birds that is the nain thing.I would agree if they had the proper educcation in breeding and owning one or more of the very best studs or families in the world. Yes Ray,
you know the blood of my birds and where they came from. I do breed alot of light feathered birds, ALOT of Rec. Reds, Blue Checks,Red Checks, and alot with white...I have as of this year aquired a few pair from one of our great club members that is allowing me to breed some solid blacks..I have a few in the air, but are still young..My birds with the lighter feather are the ones that are really smoking...We will be having a club meet at my house soon, and you tell me what you think at that time....Keep me informed on the stuff to take place at Tonys...If I can come, I will be there....

Jerry the fly was canceld this month because of extreme hot weather. Actually no flys should be held in the summer months because of the heat. If everyone could fly in the morning brfore it gets hot it would be great. This is something we have to think about for next year. We have five flyers to fly in your region in October. I hope you can compete the second Saturday in that month. Yes i know you have the local stock and some of my stock from Bill Roy. I saw them in your kit box and other roller fanciers througout the USA did too. Dont you yhink it would be wise to keep all the breeding families seperate in there own individual loft? Then you would have a better idea what your breeding results are.Do you know what to expect out of your breeding stock? I Have a good idea what is going to happen. The best youngsters after eighteen months to twenty-four nonths should make good stock. The whole club is anxious to see you fly. In the sport Ray

Hi Jerry,

if I didn;t know better, I'd say that he is a she.

Hi Ray,

you mentioned somehting about everyone wants to fly great comp kits before they develop good breeders.

My question is: how else does one know if he is developing great breeders other than by flying great kits?

Thanks,

Ken

Ray,
I go to nights starting Sept. 3rd, so I "should" be able to fly then. I have to be back to my house by 3pm to start getting ready for work, but should be able to attend the fly.If possible, maybe we can start at my place..As far as Indie pens goes, I have tried it and didnt like the results..Birds didnt raise young as well, didnt have eggs as fast, and most of all, didnt appear to be as healthy as my open loft breeders, so I discontinued the Indie pen breeding.. Yes, I have had these birds for a few years and know what to expect out of them. I have also watched the peoples birds fly many times that I received my initial birds from, so had the experience of seeing what I was getting, and it has turned out good..Granted my pairing of birds will be different than theres, they are still giving me good quality young..

Ken,
that is a cock. He is on the smaller size, but is turning out to be a better bird. I started to cull him 2 times last year because he never got depper than the 10 foot mark, while most of mine are atleast 20..I kept him around due to lack of birds from my 2 serious overflys, and now I am glad I didnt cull.
