How many times have you removed a bird from your "unsatisfactory" list that had improved to become a good, solid performer? How long to you continue to fly birds on your "unsatisfactory" list before you pull the trigger on them and remove them from your property?

Have you ever made that decision before they have moulted thier first time? Are you in such a hurry that you can't fly them one year without making that decision?

I agree with you Brian. I've been in the same situations a few times. Each bird and each circumstance is different.

Kelly, I have no desire to write a book. I have to write every day here at work. I have freelance stuff that I do as well which takes up too much of my own free time. The last thing I want to do is write a book filled with nothing more than my own opinions, then have people think I'm some kind of roller guru, when in fact I'm just a competition flyer and that's it.

Nick,

Yes it has happened. I have a little Brown bar 04 hen. She did not do much of anything except flip for about a year and a half. The only reason that I kept her was to train my young birds to trap. She is very tame and gets along good with the young birds. She was always fat from being with the young birds. Getting all the good food.

Anyway...last year at the 2 year mark...she pulled the pin and started rolling and I mean rolling. She was fast tight and anywhere from 20-35'. She kits like glue. I flew her in my A-team for the last fall fly and during most of my local flys. She is a dynamite bird.

Maybe she did not come in because she was always fed up and flew with the young birds just about everyday. I did move her into my B-team for perch space and started getting the food cut and more rest. Maybe that had her pull the trigger. Anyway....she has earned a spot in the A-team. Will not see the breeder box because of how long it took her to come in....but it may be just because I kept her fat and happy. She may be one of the birds you gamble a little and hit the gold...who knows...anyway she is still rock'n and Roll'n.

I have had other birds get better with age or really straighten up as they got older. I have had them go the other way too...fall apart...

rock and ROLL

Nick,
You can always go thru the archives here and make a book from all Brians posts.....lol.

That could be something Tony could do to make some extra money from his business here.

He could call it the best of roller-pigeon.com. Take all the best threads and make a book out of it. There's enough material here to make a best seller in the roller hobby. I know I would by one.

Ray,

Brian would sue me if it did well(LOL). I wish I wasn't so mentally lazy or I would go thru the previous posts and pull out the "goodies" from Brian and others' posts. Since ol' Tony owns them I guess I would have to make a deal with him........there is no free lunch, is there?

LOL

Personally I go 10-12 months before I make a decision. Like Brian I remove them for stupid stuff. I have had birds that were undesirable get better. Never really great but better.
