Anybody see what that guy on egg bid did to someone! Advertised some 07- 100 footers! I wrote him and asked him some questions for fun! Said he only averages about 3% rolldowns/year! They were all double rollers! Only about 8% didn't turn out to be great birds! (75' to 100') Bunch of other BS! How does this guy sleep?

I'm gonna write him back and see if his last name is (MODERATED)!LOL

Val,
I saw that on eggbid 8% that didn't turn out great so that would mean 92%Great. WOW!!! LMAO. He had either 4 or 5 on there did you read the feedback? I'm still new to rollers(just finished my first year).Isn't chain rolling where they roll then pull out and roll again? So chain rolling would be considered a fault or cull?

Robby that would be a cull, most probably that bird will fall apart, or just quit doing it and get a handle on the roll, most of those birds are just babies, and if they are doing what he claims many if not most will have major problems because they have control issues as most birds hammering those excess depths do.
Percentages are a funny thing , for example talk to me about the breeding season after the Summer heat has left and they are mainly through the moult.
The percentages look very very high, but the true indicator is what is still in the boxes come middle to late of the following Spring, that is where the story is really told as by that time nearly all of the real cream has risen to the top.
Far to many place value on young birds when they are far from prooving themselfs as they havn't matured yet.
I had a guy tell me last year who's foundation cock runs deep through many families in a particular area how his best birds roll down by the second year but they were worth it because they are so good to that point, what a crock, his idea of what a good bird is no doubt much different than my own as I insist on them being solid or they are a cull, far to many look for roll through instability which is flat out dumb and lacking an understanding of the breed .
I am afraid many think this this shallow though and only look at a bird at the moment to place value on it before it has truly prooven itself in all areas.

Scott, all the birds I'm flying right now are this years young. They are not doing a whole lot more than flipping over and short rolls, so far they are kitting nice and tight. I'm looking forward to next spring, to seeing how they are performing after they have a little time to mature.

Robby , you should start seeeing them develope as time passes, I get a lot of roll in the first season but there is more to it than that, plus as these birds mature they go through various phases of the roll which to me are tests.
It all has to come together both mentaly and physicaly and how they handle the roll impulse, without the mental part you have what most refere to as "hot" birds , and without the physical part the mental part means nothing, and without the roll impulse you might as well cross them for pretty colors, although rolldowns are better for that but that is another topic.

Black Rain,
The name says it all! Have you ever seen rain stop and pull out before it hit something? Rain, Black or other wise stops when it hits the groudn or some object and goes SPLAT!!!!!!!! Black rain, = Black Pain!! KGB

Funny Kenny. My Horner birds have BR all over the pedigrees and I don't seem to have the problem you mentioned, even with the black rollers. Hum.
Black Rain was just a name given to a bird that eventually proved to produce birds that performed well, and so did their offspring. Nothing more, nothing less. Its old history, just like 514 and any other pigeon of lore that is long dead.

Next thing we know you guys will be talking about the Lavender Lazer. Another thing that doesn't stop until it hits a solid object. Odd how things conform to the name they are given! If you breed a Lazer to a Black rain, do they get to a solid object faster? KGB

Probably no different than all those blue check being stone cold stiffs you have to feed nothing but air to make roll, or not fly because they are instant roll downs.
