I don't know if this approprate or not,if not just delete it.What about a thread to record the number of hits and the losses of our birds to BOPs.Maybe include dates and times, what state ? Might be interesting info.----------

Hey Ron, a great idea! It may not be 100% accurate but would be interesting anecdotal information and could be useful.

I can create an online form and anyone can report birds lost, attacks, type of bop, etc...

What else would we want on a form??

Other than date time location the only thing I could think of is wether the loss was from a direct attack(caught) or other such as an induced overfly.

Ron,
I concur, great idea.
Date, time, location, weather, type bop, how(on release, in flying kit, upon alighting, actually seen taken or just no shows after a fly in which a bop attacked, number lost. Also leave room for a comment from the fancier if so desired. Should also have an indication such as "none" under number lost. That way you are still documenting the attack.
This is probably one of the best ideas to come across this site and will end up being very beneficial in the future for presenting the fanciers side of the equation to whomever. It needs to be an honest appraisal of what happened in your backyard.
Gregg.

I think we should include as much information as possible...especially time and weather conditions...if we can find a pattern...that may help. I know that I NEVER fly before or after a storm...

Tony, I agree an online form would be great! It could give us a better understanding of BOP activities in differant areas.

Ron, Great Idea!!

I have been thinking about starting just this kind of record for my own use. I will be happy to share my data.

Another thing I would like to see also is the color of the bird taken. After a year or so we could see what they go after the most. I seem to lose more of the whiter birds, and the ones I mark for identification purposes with orange holloween pait. Could be just coincidence.

Great idea! It will certainly begin to help gather the data as to the number of losses we are sustaining in the hobby. I have prepared a survey that I wanted to get published in the NBRC Bulletin, but the track record for responses to surveys is dismal at best. If you would like I can submit it to you, Tony, for use here. It asks some very relevant questions that we need the answers to.

I dont think the BOP cares what color the bird is but it could be some interesting info. maybe I`m wrong on this. Color has`nt seemed to affect my losses, although this year , knock on wood, has seen very few losses.
