Hey Guys, my question is what kind of antibiotic would you use? I have a young bird that has a rattle, it's like a cough rattle. He is not loosing body weight, there is no discharge from his nostrils, I can't see anything wrong when I look in his mouth. I've got him on Sulmet right now, and I've been giving him a drop of VetRx. What could be the problem and what should I do? Thanks...

What I use to treat my birds for respiratory problems is "oxytetracycline", aka by the trade names:
* Aureomycin (chlortetracycline) * Tetracycline * Doxycycline
I also avoid giving my birds calcium minerals as it "binds" and is not available for absorption.
Some of these may not be available in my online store. If you need any of them, give me a call and we can ship right away.
Baytril is a product that has been in wide use as well. It's availability by the pigeon fancy is in doubt for the future.
I am not a veterinarian and any information I provide in anectodotal and in regards to my birds. Actual diagnosis and treatment should be made by a veterinarian. ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

Thanks Guys, My computer has been down for the last week so I couldn't get back to you.
It was just a couple of young birds that were sick. They seem to be doing better, but I am still going to keep them quarantined for at least a couple more weeks just in case.
Tony, did you stop stocking antibiotics and 4 in-one in your store? I looked last week but couldn't find any, you mentioned Oxytetracycline is that a mixture of Aureomycin, Tetracycline and Doxycycline that I would have to mix myself or does it come premixed?. Thanks Again!!
