Hey All, Today I had the experience of courage in it's most fundamental form. Unexpected and never before observed! I placed a very young squeek into the kitbox this morning to begin the weaning process. I like to start them as young as possible, so young that they need to be replaced with their parents to feed, or be fed. I try to watch them very closely during this period. I went to the house for only a moment, and returned to find the squeek cowering in a corner of the flight pen, wing extended in that submisive posture of the very young, shaking from head to toe. Nearby was an older cock and another squeek. I chased the cock away and went around to the other side of the kitbox to clean and preform daily maintenance. Hearing a brew-ha-ha,(big noise for you boys south of here) I jumped around to the flight-pen side of the kit box. Trapped in the corner was my squeek, being pummled about the head by the oldest and dominate cock. Before I could intervene another young cock,(not much more then a squeek himself)jumped between the two. With the veriosity of the very young he drove the older bird away. That being said I would not have thought so much of the incident, but our hero continues to protect this hapless youngster, staying near, in the kitbox or flypen. Is this normal? Are there hero's amoung the birds and beasts, or am I just crazy as my wife thinks!
